Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

My friend ordered 18x9.5 boss 338 for his 97 silverado and they don't fit on the front. The hole for the hub is not big enough and even if that was machined out, the bearing cap would stick out a lot and they don't make a center cap to cover it. I assume these trucks are the same way. Also they don't have a 20x10 wheel availale and probably won't. Also 2 of the wheels he got had huge gashes/scratches on the outside lip. So he sent those wheels back and got 20 inch boss 335's which are nice and fit good but the front center caps still won't go on. And the bad thing is that their customer service is terrible and they said they had never even heard of these problems and don't have solutions for them. How could they sell that many and not realize that they don't even fit and try to fix it? Also if you search there has been other threads about this. Many people want to run them because they are cheap and look awsome but the quality and customer service is just not there.

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

I can confirm these will not fit I tried to order some and they do not make them in our lug pattern. I have a friend that owns a wheel shop who is in good with the guys from Boss and the cant make them because if there is not enough room for the hub. I have seen them in person on a s10 and they are really good looking wheels.

1/8" and 1/4" spacers could be used also depending on how far the hub sticks out...............

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

Yes adapters/spacers could be used but for the extra cost, hastle, safety issues, etc. it would be worth it to go with wheels from a company that makes a good product that fits and backs up their product. Many other companys make similar looking wheels that fit.

The MB wheels look like grey Coys C55's. They even have the little recess in the center cap for the Coys emblem.

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

I have been working on a 69 chevy which I have converted to disc brackes all the way around. I had a set of Boss 338 and they are awesome, but the problem is they will not fit around the front hub. The wheel spacer comment is O.K. but really have to watch as I figured that I needed a 1" wheel spacer. The major thing that I didn't care for was the fact with my lowered 2.5" drop spindle was the face of the wheel was too far out and didn't fit my taste. I ended up taking the 2.5" drop spindle and bought the special designed CPP series which brings the wheel mounting surface in an additional inch for running wide tires.

I am still in search for a wheel that favors the front hub. I seen in the forum that the Coy C5 accomodates us C10 owners.

I have also been to discount tire and consulted with them about the old school rims. They claim they work but just nervous due to the saleperson I was conversing with.

Bottom line - I converted the truck to 5x5 disc brakes thinking things would be easier for wheel choice. Boy was I wrong but the forum supplies great feedback and something will arise.

I will keep posting my rim research and good luck.

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

the coys will most likely require some "clearancing" to fit as well. at least mine did

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

I run them on my 66 c-10 there as good as anyone eles cheaper than foose or coys,im running 5 on 4.5 (ford patern)
i use 1 1/4" adapters noeone has noticed them ,i have had alot of complements on the wheels though ,i used the ford bolt patern because they dont make a 20 with a 5 on 5 bolt patern and the 5 on 4.5 patern fits alot of cars
take a look at my other post to see what they look like

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

To correct some incorrect information, Boss does make the 338 in a 20x8.5 and a 20x10 in a 5x5 pattern now. The only "factory" solution for the center cap issue is they do offer tri bar "spinner" center cap. I have not been able to verify if the spinner will allow enough clearance. In my case it really doesn't matter as I would not run the spinner even if it did allow the wheel to fit.

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

you are right they do make a 20 x8 20 x10 but do not offer this in the 5 on 5 bolt patern {they say they do but i sure could not find any nor could boss tell me when they would be avalible as of the end of may this year}as far as the fit on the hub goes its not a problem with the spacers

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

according to the rep we talked to at Boss, they DO make the 20x8.5 in 5x5 now. He said they have them available, but the 20x10 in 5x5 is on national back order.

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

anyone have any thoughts on this? These wheels are cool and cheaper than coys but need spacers to fit 67-72 chevy trucks. How much clearance is needed and could the wheel bearing cap be modified possibly???

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

As far as the above MB wheels... I haven't used them or even seen them, but I can tell you they are <insert manufacturers name> wheels.

All MB are a marketing rebadge of someone else's wheels.
Only the center caps are changed to MB logo ones, and sometimes a different finish color is used. Small off-brand manufacturer + rebadge is their modus operandi.

Someone said they looked like Coys? If they look very much like Coys, they probably ARE Coys with MB center caps.

Re: 20 inch staggered Boss 338

I run these same rims 20X8.5 and 20X10 on my caprice with no issues. I guess the hub is different than your truck. I had to roll the rear and I added a 1" spacer for looks becuse I run a 9C1 diff.
