HOUSTON:: Need a trailer, and probably a tow rig... ;)
God be with Craigslist, as I think I've found a donor truck for me. As my cab is rotting to hell and it's way beyond my skill and wallet to fix. And I don't want to ghetto-job it...
But, here is a LWB truck, who according to the seller, has rust behind the gas tank and in the rockers, but is solid else where. And for 200 bucks, I can't argue too much. Not quite 100% on the deal yet, still gotta talk my father into letting me park another truck, but I'd like to get this lined up. Not sure what class my bumper is good for, but my truck is strong enough to pull and stop a loaded trailer. But, if my bumper class isn't good enough, then I have no tow rig ATM. But, I'm sure a few neighbors can also offer up theirs. Pulling this home with a 67-72 isn't a biggie. But if you've got a tow rig and want to join in the adventure, let me know. If you were in South Florida I would be able to help you...Go to Uhaul and rent a trailer 29.00 and you are set. you can definetly pull it with your truck..

What class is this bumper? I got into an debate with my dad about it a few months ago when talking about car-dollying a '69 Cougar.
  MGB: What do you mean a roll back? Basically, the trip is from NW Houston/Cypress, to you for the trailer, to beasly, to cypress, and then back to you if we used your trailer. Quote:

Roll Back is a tow truck where the bed slide back and you winch the car on.
That bumper should work but don't get me to lying as to what class it is. They just bolt on like a reciever hitch The problem with U-Haul is that they only rent the trailer if your truck is a 3/4 ton or more Otherwise you have to rent a truck from them. Not going the U-Haul route, just seeing if the bumper is rated for the weight I'm looking to pull. Would this trip be too long for the $55 roll back?
Once I get more funds for this cab, I'm getting my rockers threw you as well, best prices that I've found.

I just looked to see where cypress is. Its up to you. Your looking at 4 hrs minimum depending on traffic each way. Thats 16 hrs plus driving plus gas.

Any more opinions or facts about the load capacity of the bumper? I know theres a lot of ones on this site like it.

Does it count that it's been used to pull me out of the mud, and several times towing flooded cars?
Half the reason I haven't commited to finding a stock bumper is this one has been so damn useful, even if it is ugly.Legality aside, if there is structural concerns, I'll go another way. Got a neighbor with a Cummin's powered dodge, but he's off on a honey moon, so pending if he wants to go road trippin' to pull it. Not to mention a diesel with a modern tranny will save a lot of fuel, even if the cool factor of towing it with my truck is lost. Still would like to find a local trailer, so I don't have to cover all of houston in one day. North west, to south east, to south west, to north west, to south east, and back to north west... If you get the new cab and want to part out the old one Id like to see if your cab has any panels that I need. I could use a roof and some pieces around the cowl.
Let me know when/if you want to part out the old cab. Im local and Ill cut it up myself. If there is enough good metal that I need I could probably take the whole thing. Thanks |

Shop around for new ones. Somtimes you can buy a new one for very few dollars more than what some used ones are going for. But, stay away from the ones that are homemade with mobile home axles. Those have brake linings that were made for one trip only.

sorry Texan, I'd think about pulling it for you (2 hr drive to houston), but my tuck is in pieces for the 383 swap. and I don't think my Dad will let anyone but me or him pull his trailer.

i rented a car hauler from u haul for 60 bucks, and that includes insurance on it. i pulled my 67 suburban all the way from dallas to houston with my 02 tahoe. i told em i was pullin a truck because the suburban wouldnt have let me because of the weight. and i also didnt mention i was going to dallas lol. i had to go 55mph on the way back but it worked. 4 hours up there, 6 1/2 back lol. just a thought....
