Vent window swings loosely, what broke?

My vent window used to be pretty weak, wouldnt stay open at 50+ mph like the passenger. Then a few weeks ago it went totally limp, it just pivots freely. I was wondering what holds it open? Is it a bolt or clam in the door, or the rubber seal that keeps it open?

Re: Vent window swings loosely, what broke?

there is a stud with a spring for tension on the bottom of the Vent Window. I will see if i have one to show you in my parts pile.... I borrowed a pic from the site, kind of dark but you can see the stud on the botton with the spring for tension, Yours could be really lose, or possibly broken.

Yes, you have to pull out your vent window to do this.

Is it possible to tighten that by just removing the door panel and reaching up there?

You can give it a try, but I'd think you would cut up your arms doing so. The window and regulator might also get in the way. I have the panels off of one of my trucks now, so I'll check it out tonight and see if it can be done.

...Ummm...yea...I forgot about that part....This is the result of dropping a socket down in the door....it was stuck pretty good and I started to panic as I was home alone....so I just ripped it out of there!

Re: Vent window swings loosely, what broke?

There are locking tabs that fold over that nut. You would have to unbend them to tighten that nut. This will make a tight space seem even tighter, good luck.

I knew there was another reason I pulled them out to do this...

Re: Vent window swings loosely, what broke?

I'm skinny.. I think I can get up there. I need to pull my door panels off to silence some rattling linkage, this will add onto the todo list. Anyone have a close up pic so I know what I'm doing with out looking at it?

Re: Vent window swings loosely, what broke?

I'll just have to attempt to pry it back or dremel it. I can reach up there, but that bolt is more protected than I thought.

It should bend easy enough. They aren't that strong.

Re: Vent window swings loosely, what broke?

Be careful you dont break it when taking it off. A lot of times the nut is rusted on there, and PB Blaster is your friend.
How is the rubber? Now is the perfect time to pull them out and rebuild them completely.

Re: Vent window swings loosely, what broke?

Don't have cash to put new rubber, but it needs it if I go threw a car wash. Which I don't, so, I don't need rubber.
