67 step to fleet project

Bought this 67 stepside off of the second owner. He bought it in 75 and drove it everyday until 2000 when he parked it. I like the stepside beds, but I have always really liked the fleetsides better. I hate that I payed more for the bed than I did for the complete truck. 6cyl three on the column, but I have a 305 and a 2004r, lowering somewhere around 3-4 in front and 5-6 in the back, and probably torque thrusts . For being driven every day the rust isnt really that bad. It's gonna need a passenger fender corners, rockers, cab supports, some work on the doors, and just a couple spots in the floor. As far as paint I'm not sure.

Re: 67 step to fleet project

Cool project. From what I can see it looks like a good shell to base a great project from. I just picked up a 67 GMC in about the same condition. It will be a while before I tackle that one though. What are your plans?

Re: 67 step to fleet project

Yeah, all the cab really needs is some work on the doors, corners, rockers, supports, and a couple little places in the floor. Sounds nice, my uncle has a 72 gmc short fleet. I have that fleetside bed for it. Plan on lowering, puttin in a 305 I have and a th350/400. Not sure on color yet.

Re: 67 step to fleet project

Just cab corners left to do on cab and finish welding in the rest of the panels. Had the frame blasted and got it and the motor painted.

Re: 67 step to fleet project

Just got the motor and trans set on the frame today. Also picked up an nos dog dish. Does have a couple tiny dents, but it must be just shelf wear because it came from a chevy dealership in Maine. Unfortunately there were no more , but I am still lookin for 3 more.

I've already gotten rid of the fender and I'm gonna polish up one of the old caps if worse comes to worst and I can't find enough for a whole set. The other caps are in really poor shape, all of them have some dents, one of them had a hole ripped in it while I was gettin it on the trailer.

Both mirrors were rusted in half on the bottom leg. I bought a gallon of nason chassis black and thought I would have some left over, but that only did a little over half of it. My neighbor had some cheap farm black that was idk how many years old haha. It really surprised me how good it turned out. I have changed my mind a million times, but I think I am gonna do it 50th anniversary theme, but use the bmw gold like this one.

Thanks. Yeah I though it was weird too, but it did come with them. I thought it was weird that someone would get a 6cyl, 3spd, radio delete, but still a custom.

Nope, I sold it to a guy in St. Paul, VA. He could have sold his truck and the bed, but havent talked to him since I sold it to him.
