Re: can a 57 hood fit a 58/59

I don't think so. The fenders on the 58/59's are wider for the double headlights. So the 57 hood would be too wide for the later.

i thought about it but my front end is in really nice condition, just the hood has louvers which i dont like and shipping a hood to hawaii is crazy expensive.

I think they will all interchange between 55-59 the 58-59 fenders are different but I think the hood measurements are the same. I'll have to see if I can get to my hood to pull some measurements.

Re: can a 57 hood fit a 58/59

No it will not fit as bolt on but I believe anything can be modified. The whole front clip is different. I went from a 58 to a 55. The Fenders, inner fenders, and even the radiator support is different between 55-57 and 58-59. When I changed my frontend to a 55 I had to do just as 1sik52 said.

Re: can a 57 hood fit a 58/59

Huh, I know that the core support, fenders, and inner fenders are different. But I thought the hood dimensions were all the same for all years, just different styles. 55-56 smooth, 57 bullets, and 58-59 had the high sides.

I guess they could be different dimensions also, if you have access to that 57 hood why not pull some measurements, the other thing that is probably different is the hood hinge mounting dimensions since 55-57 mount to the firewall and 58-59 mount to the inner fender.

I'm Not at the shop. But I know they are different. Talked about this once over on the "BOLT" . I have both sitting next to each other and thought the same but after it was discussed, I took a closer look.
I thought it was the length frt to back.
ITS NOT A BOLT ON 4 SURE

Re: can a 57 hood fit a 58/59

As most others have said, it isn't a bolt on affair. There is a guy in Nor Cal who put a 58-59 hood on his 55 chevy, of course with modification. You can see what he did to accomplish it here..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=355930

Re: can a 57 hood fit a 58/59

Well, while I was at the junkyard today I measured a 58-59 hood and they are different. My 57 measures 41.5" and the 58-59 measured about 38.5"

Yes it is I had to cut about 2 3/4 inches when I changed over to a 55 front end. I'm not sure if that's the exact measure me I cut going by memory, but I do have the ends I cut off if you need them measured. Just let me know.

Re: can a 57 hood fit a 58/59

on the fire wall where the hood hinges bolt up the dimension between the hood hinges on a 55-57 are not the same as the 58-59. the 58-59 are wider across that dimension

2.5" all in front of the ibeam so you can trim to use as a 55-7
