Re: mufflers??

You are wanting some Flowmasters! Go with one of the 40 series, the Super 44 is the loudest\deepest, followed by the original 40, and the super 40. This is the sound you hear on muscle cars at car shows.

Re: mufflers??

I have to say, I have really enjoyed the Flowtech Raptor mufflers I have. I got them at my local Checker auto parts store. The sound has gotten quite a few compliments.

Re: mufflers??

i've currently got dual 2.5" magnaflows on the truck but those will be coming off soon.
Since i'm selling my mustang, i'm taking the bassani mufflers from the cat back and putting them on my truck. REALLY curious on how it is gonna sound behind that engine :-)

Re: mufflers??

The flo sound is tired, Magnaflows are it. Nice and deep powerful sound.

Re: mufflers??

I'm liking the Pypes mufflers. Will be installing those on my truck since Dynomax Super Turbos are too quiet.

Re: mufflers??

If you want loud and Flowmasters then go 10 series, they are loud but still have the tone!

Re: mufflers??

I run the 10 series flowmaster race mufflers on my camaro, they are reeeeally loud. Granted a lot of it is because of the motor they're behind, but I set car alarms off constantly in that thing just idling through parking lots. Sound clip:

On my truck I run the super 44's, they are also pretty loud with a deep tone but much more tame than the race mufflers. These will usually set off car alarms if I give a quick rev next to an armed system. Sound clip:

Re: mufflers??

I've got a set of stainless Pypes mufflers (I forget the line... it's their loudest line with the straight-through design) with a set of true dual 2.5" pipes on my truck. For a stock 454 with peanut port heads and stock cam, I'm impressed at how good it sounds.

If you really want to give your truck an interesting sound with true duals, try different mufflers left and right. It'll create a bit of an imbalance that can sound really good with some experimentation.

not to say it wont sound good but that would be a very time consuming and expensive experiment.

Re: mufflers??

Well you said you want the classic muscle car sound, then I would either get glass packs like mentioned before or turbo mufflers. Those are both considered old school muscle car sound IMO

Re: mufflers??

Flowmaster 50 series on my 383 powered S-10.

Magnaflow (3" in and out) oval stainless on the 454 powered Heap.

I didn't like the Magnaflows on the S-10 but they sound awesome on the Heap.

I'm pretty much over the Flowmasters, I'm ready for "quiet" time. LOL.

lol thanks. I wouldn't put the 10 series on the truck, it's my daily driver and they would get old very fast....I'm sure my neighbors wouldn't be happy either! The motor in the camaro is a 370ci LSx, 12:1 comp and bunch of nitrous. There's a build thread link for it in my signature. I usually put ~2k miles a year on it.
