What do you think? before and after. Oh and I figured I'd throw in a picture of the new wheels too, I only have the fronts now but the rears are ordered.

I'm working on a chevy grille right now hopefully I'll be done with it before the weekend but I think I'll stay with the gmc grille. I'm not done with the 73-74 swap so please look past the metal behind the grille that needs painted, little off center ...

I had a 73-74 Cheyenne Super grill I did something similar to. Regular 73-74 grills were black plastic painted silver, but Cheyenne Super grills were first chromed, then painted silver everywhere except the outer most lip. I ended up scraping the silver paint off all the forward facing surfaces but left the rest silver, it looked pretty cool.

Thanks guys I think it turned out looking pretty cool. Like pyro said these grilles are all chrome plated before they are painted. I originally started using jewelers rouge to take off the paint but it was taking forever and I ran out of rouge so I took it to a metal polishing guy in town. He asked why I was "home chroming" it the hard way? (made it sound like "home chroming" was a commonly used term haha) He said aircraft coating remover would brush on and wipe off the paint, he even gave me the bottle he had sitting in his shop free!

It took me about 2 hours of brushing it on, using a toothbrush to get in the corners to get all of the paint removed and a quick coat of mothers wax. The chevy grill has a ton of corners in the middle that are taking a while to get done.

The wheels are Coys c57

That's awesome. I'll be doing the same thing. I picked up an extra chrome "Super" grille at a swap this past summer. I'll start 'home chroming' that soon. Thanks for the info!!

Do you have to worry about the aircraft coating remover ruining the chrome? Anyone know where to purchase this remover? Looks cool!

You can buy it at a parts store or an automotive paint store. It will not damage the chrome, it is designed to eat away paint and not damage metal. Chrome is of course metal. Just dont leave it sitting on there forever.

And, wear gloves and glasses. You do not want this stuff on you at all. It will physically burn you.

Yes... definately... it does a great job removing paint, and about anything else on the surface.... but be sure it's in a open, well vented area... and well away from anything else you don't want stripped.

If you get it on you, you will know very quickly!

I bought a chrome 73/74 someone painted over off sleezebay before finding my non chrome NOS grille, Now I'll strip the painted one and see which will look best.....
