Truck Dies

So I have an 03 silverado with a 4.8 and auto trans, last year it started to die at random and I figured it was the battery so as soon as I had the money I bought a new battery. Will that stopped it for a while be it started to die again randomly but not as often. I don't have the money right now to go and have it checked out, so I thought i'd see if anyone else has had any experiences like this with there truck?

Can anyone help me out with this?

Have any ideas of what could be causing this?

Re: Truck Dies

my wifes 01 denali was doing that. I pulled the intake tube off the throttle body, cleaned it as best I could, opened the flapper, cleaned in there (per someones advice here on the forum). There was lots of black in there that i got cleaned off, and it has worked great ever since! That has the 6.0, which I think was notorious for that, but maybe the same prob on yours.

Re: Truck Dies

I will look into both of those.
Although I had to have the intake gaskets replaced not to long ago and I think they cleaned all that stuff up at the same time.

Also, did yours only die at really low speeds, say in a parking lot or when stopped to change from reverse to drive and vise versa?

Re: Truck Dies

That's what ours is doing, it maybe more prone to it being of the drive by wire variety. Hahaha

I will get this stuff done friday after I get paid and see how it goes.

Re: Truck Dies

When cleaning a drive by wire throttle body spray the cleaner on the rag and clean off. avoid spraying cleaner into throttle body if possible, cause if it gets into the electronics of the throttle plate actuator it can cause problems.

Re: Truck Dies

Thank you, didn't think of that. I will be sure to use a rag to clean up the throttle body.

Re: Truck Dies

Our '02 K2500 at work was dieing intermittantly a while back. No set speeds or loads. Finally got where we couldn't take it anywhere with confidence. Sometimes it would start right back up, other times needed a few minutes. Didn't throw any codes. When we found that the fuel pressure was good, we started looking at the electronics. Finally replaced the Crank Sensor at the rear of the engine. Fixed.

That does not sound like something I want to have to fix, I hope it's not that.
