Papa's 1972 C/10 project
I inherited my dads 72' C/10 longbed a couple of months ago. He passed in 08' and it's been sitting at mom's house since then. He didn't do much with it other than drive. As soon as I got it I put a reconditioned 350 in it. It's going to be a daily driver so Not too much customizing will go into it but it will look good. I also didnt like the stepside so I already found a fleetside to go on it. It's slow going but already looking better. Any tips you guys have for me willbe much appreciated.
P.S. anyone looking for a longbed stepside inn Tucson Az can come pick it up for free. |

cleaned up the rearend and brake drums. A little elbow grease goes a long way. A 5 buck rust remover wheel for the drill and some spray paint. Chrome hardware is a killer!

With some help from the neighbors and kids, got the bed on today. Still waiting on the bumper brackets from Brothers. Fit up real nice and easy, The bed is gonna take alot of work to get straight.

been ahwile since I posted but I've done quite a bit. It's at my buddy's shop and he should be spraying the HotRod Flatz back on it today. Hopefully I've done my planning right and as soon as the paint is done I can start piecing it back together. Here's what's waiting for install:
DJM 3/5 lowering kit with new lower control arms and flip kit reupholstered seat and door panels ClassicAutoAir A/C system carpet clear light lenses all around shiny new 15X8 steelies with beauty rings and police caps 23575R 15 with 3" whitewalls Chrome grill frame with 1/4" billet insert (still backorder dang it!!) Acutally someone came and picked it up. I would've tried to sell it but didn't have anywhere to keep it, neighborhood police would've got me if I left it in the driveway.

they said it was flat black, it wasn't. The truck looked like a battleship.

you have a nice truck my dads 70 was a lwb stepper from the factory but now is fleet side, what sizes tires are you using im liking the whites walls

The tires are 235/75 15s. They just came in. The wheels are 15X8. I like steppers on shorties but it just didn't look right on the LB. I'm starting to get a little antsy now. The only thing I'm waiting for is my grill and I'll have everything I need to put it back together.
We finally got the right paint. My buddy does some painting on the side but had never spayed hotrod flat black. The guys mixed it wrong and we weren't sure how it was supposed to look when it was sprayed so we trusted them. After a few minutes we knew it was wrong. It was kinda hard to tell under the florescent lights too. |

Here's pics with a couple of coats of the right hotrod flat black. The truck looks great. Gonna start putting it back together saturday. I still haven't gotten the grill in yet, sucks. But I'll have plenty to keep me busy this weekend. Can't wait to take it for the first official cruise.

That was the original plan. They said the rims would show up primer gray so my buddy was going to powdercoat them red but they showed up already powder coated black. After seeing so many flat black cars/trucks with red wheels I decided to keep mine black.

For any of you that are interested, I'll be installing my DJM 3/5 lowering kit this weekend. I'll try to post a good step by step show for you. I haven't found one on the forum yet so I figured I'd do my part.
My kit uses the 3" drop lower control arms for the front. You use the stock heighth springs and shocks for this application. What they did was fabricate the spring lower cup to be exactly 3" lower than the stock control arm so In essense, it should drop by 3". I'm curious to see if it actually does, I can always drop in some shorter springs if it doesn't get down as far as I expect it to. I happen to have leafs in the rear so the rear kit is a flip kit. It should be a simple bolt on and off. I did have to buy shorter shocks for the rear though. The parts I received are really good quality and they came with nice sturdy gun metal splatter powercoat. Looks like all the hardware is there. I hope everything works as good as it looks. I'll keep you posted.

Started putting the truck back together today, got the carpet, firewall insulation and step plates in. Also got the wheelwells and fenders fitted up, still got some adjusting to do. You can see in the pic that we rolled some Rhinoliner on the floor to help with moisture and vibration. Gonna do more tomorrow. Hopefully get the body completely on, probably not the hood though.
