Weird ebay story...Hope i can fix the carb

When i built my 406 i decided to sell the 670 holley i had on ebay because it was to small. It worked perfect when shipped but about 2 weeks after i sold it the buyer opened a case with ebay saying carb was not described right. I was as honest as could be when i say there was nothing wrong with it. The buyer claimed he could not get it adjusted and to make it worse it backfired and caught fire. So ebay reviewed the case and decided in his favor and told him to ship me the carb by july 7th. Guess what it never showed even though the seller claims he sent it to me. So ebay reversed there decision and gave me my money back. Then the seller appeals the decision and ebay gives him his money back. So now both of us got our money and i don't give it a second thought. Got home yesterday( july 20th ) and there was the carb dropped off by ups.....Linkage bent, fuel line crushed. Anyone ever seen anything like this. Gonna try to rebuild carb and fix...well see

Re: Weird ebay story...Hope i can fix the carb

Sorry to hear of your bad experience. I have been using Ebay since the very beginning. It has its ups and downs but all in all it's one of the best places to sell stuff. It's about the only place you can potentially get a 100-10000 hits on a given item. I hate their fees and that they make you use paypal.

As far as the weirdness goes I have had a few weirdos in my time, it's just another part of selling on ebay. Good luck with the rebuild.

Re: Weird ebay story...Hope i can fix the carb

sounds pretty typical for ebay nowadays// that is why i rarely ever deal on there anymore, as a vendor i had over 1500 transactions and it finally got too unreal with the problem buyers wanting to get stuff for nothing. i either sell in person over craigslist or i go to swapmeets. nothing like cash in hand transactions makes me happy

Re: Weird ebay story...Hope i can fix the carb

This is the reason I take photos of items before I ship them and pictures of the sealed box.
I have even been know to write every number just to protect myself - when you put that in writing and send it with the part no games normally get played.
I wonder if it is even the same carb

Wierd! Call me old school...ebay freaks me out! And paypal seems to control the cash flow a little much for my liking. I'm the kinda guy who likes to check stuff out in person, so I never use ebay.

Re: Weird ebay story...Hope i can fix the carb

I agree with BigBlock. i wonder if its the same carb. maybe the buyer got screwed somehow, somewhere on a damaged carb. then bought yours and sent you the bad one, saying you mislead him on a bad carb.

that way he ended up with a good carb and his money back.

But i guess karma might have got the best of ebay on this one. i bet they contact one of you to get their money back when they realize what happened.

Ebay can't come after me because once they close it the appeals he sent are between him and ebay. I contacted them by phone and the girl i spoke with said he should not have even got his money back due to him never returning the carb when he was supposed to. She said the agent that gave it back to him should not have.

Re: Weird ebay story...Hope i can fix the carb

how did the box look when you got it back? When I had a issue with a radio I sold, The buyer had to provide pics of the damaged radio and the box it came in, The pioity box was crushed in one corner, and they didnt give him his money back until I said I received the radio back.

Was not in the original box.The box was crushed and poorly taped and wrapped. My thought was he was hoping i would refund the money myself and him also keep the carb. I was born at night but not last night.

Re: Weird ebay story...Hope i can fix the carb

Well, that really sux! I would never ask for my money back because I couldn't tune a carb...?

I did buy a carb from a board member here that was described incorrectly (supposed to have the Demon Idle-Eze baseplate and I asked more than once). It arrived and was damaged in shipping and didn't have the baseplate. I called and asked for a full refund but the money was gone so we agreed he would refund me $100...afterwards I wasn't real nuts about it but now it's on my truck and working fine so I'm happy.

I don't know what I'd do in your case but sounds like the guy stiffed you so why should you have to send it back?

Not complaining, i can fix it and sell it but its just the way this whole thing went. I will see if i can post some pics. I took it to a buddys house to start the rebuild. If hes not already started on it. If i sell it i double my money being that i got the original money he payed for it.
