Removal of Guage Cluster 1970 C-10 HELP!

Ok Guys Im trying to get my guage cluster off and I have everthing of except for the black knob from the lights. I cant seem to get it off. I tried poking a little hole in the back to see if it would pop out but it wouldnt. On the wiper side it had an easy screw to take off and it came right off but I cant get the light switch knob off. I was at it for about a half hour when I stopped before I got fustrated and just broke the darn thing off. Please let me know if you have any ideas or know the trick. Thanks

Re: Removal of Guage Cluster 1970 C-10 HELP!

as he mentioned there is a release button on the headlight switch but they can be a pain. If you pull hard straight out it will pull the knob off....then when you're ready to put the cluster back in just push it back on and good to go....just don't do it more than once or twice or it will wear out and pop off whenever you turn the lights on

You have to reach up behind the instrument cluster and depress a button on top of the light switch, while doing this you can the pull out the knob and rod with your other hand......take your time.......then the bezel assy can be removed.

Just make sure you shove it back in after you get the rod out and the bezel off, because it will turn your lights on. At least thats what mine does.

Just a small note ,if your removing your gauge cluster you should disconnect your battery..... less chance of shorting some thing out and blowing a fuse.I LEARNED THE HARD WAY!!!!!

A clean restored cluster...you'll be happy when you see the improvement if that is what you are going for!

I was going to say what chisler mentioned , when ever playing with electric disconnect battery , you wouldn't want to short that printed circuit or other items while removing inst cluster
