Burb seat questions

Was the second seat in a burb standard?
If not, is SPID code A53 Rear Seat the 2nd row seat or 3rd row?

Found one with SPID A53 that owner swears never had the 3rd row seat. 2nd row seat looks short on pass side for access to 3rd row seat that isn't there.
Looking at another Burb w/o the A53 code and 2nd row seat is full width.

Were there different 2nd row seats for vehicles with and without 3rd row seating?

Is the 3rd row seat the same as a Blazer rear?

These questions may not make sense, but I'm just starting to look for a Burb so it's all new to me.
Thanks.

Re: Burb seat questions

Blazer seat is the same as the rear seat, there are two different second row seats for the burbs, one is a full seat and the other is a smaller version. The mounting brackets changed for the second row seat between 70 and 71 to bolt it down to the rear four points.

Re: Burb seat questions

Bill,
I have a 1971 Chevrolet Suburban guide that describes the seats as follows:
  • A52: standard seat or optional custom bench seat (no center or rear seat)
  • A50: optional bucket seats
  • AS3: optional center seat only
  • A80: optional center and rear seat (a rubber floor mat for the rear compartment was included with this option)
When ordering AS3 the center seat is wider than when ordering A80; 58.25 inches versus 50 inches, respectively.

I hope this offers some help.
Phil

Re: Burb seat questions

Thanks Smitty and Phil for the responses. The 2 I'm looking at are both 72's. I don't know if that would make a difference. What confuses me is #1 with the A53 code has the short center seat but no rear. #2 has the full size center seat and no RPO code on the SPID. (should be AS3)

I've found both AS3 and A53 listed as rear seat. Both owners claim this is how they originally came from the factory.

Re: Burb seat questions

While not directly related, the statement about what was ordered and what came from the factory did remind me of my sister in-laws graduation present from university. A 1980 white Trans Am optioned and ordered from the dealer. When it arrived at the dealer (from the factory) it was missing the front driver and passenger side seat belts.

And that was an omen of problems to come with that car!

Re: Burb seat questions

in Layman's terms....

base model burbs got just the front row bench as standard equipment. if you got a custom deluxe, standard setup was 2 rows with the full width back seat. the third row seat (with narrow middle row) was optional on all models.

back in the 80's my dad started his burb ownership "dynasty" with a rare dealer promo 72 burb C10 custom deluxe 350/350 with all the extras (tilt, cab lights, etc) and it had two full two rows. he used a back seat from a 71/72 blazer as a third row. the white vinyl seat complimented the white vinyl and blue/black highlander cloth. my 72 burb c20 (regular) custom deluxe had the regular imitation cloth upholstery in blue with black pattern and i plan to someday add a factory third row/blazer seat with matching color and upholstery ($$$)

Re: Burb seat questions

These are both Custom Deluxes so then I would think that A53 Rear Seat on the SPID means a 3rd row seat should be there.

The spid for the '72 GMC Sub I'm selling shows "16K6B0 - H.D. Bucket Seats", as well as the A80 center/rear seats...
