64 chevy swb opinions

hey guys hows it going? i have a 64 chevy swb that i bought bout two years ago. ever since i bought the truck i been buying parts and gathering info, but now i need opinions. i started working a new job about 6 months ago and have no time to work on this truck, six days a week 10-12 hr days. should i hold on to this truck and finish what i started or let it go and give someone a chance to do this truck some justice by getting built not just sitting doing nothing.

but its killing me cuz i get home from work go out back to feed the dogs and gotta walk by it everyday. i want to work on it so bad but i work such crzy hours i cant do anything with it.

Keep it! I still have my 1966 Stepside that I bought when I was 15. I've now had it for 16 yrs and still havn't gotten anywhere with it. Looks like I will finally get to start on it in the next couple of months and guess what, not only will I get to build my truck the way I want it, but it'll be a father/son project with my 8 yr old.

i can understand the building a project with your kid thing cuz i have a 7year old lil girl. when we re at shows or lookin at pictures online, she always likes late 40s and early 50s model cars and trucks.

so i dont feel like working on it now? id never have spent the money i did to buy the truck or spend the money on the pb dropmember and art arms if i didnt feel like workin on it. i prey this job last forever cuz with no money how could build anything

So what's the issue then? You have the money, pay someone to work on it! You don't have the time because you like working 72 hrs per week to do what you say you want to do. Ask God to create the 8th. day so you can do it yourself. LOL

Why not just put it back stock and drive it. Too many of these trucks get slammed, IMHO. They drive just fine stock. I've been driving mine pretty much every day for 15 years.

sorry aerotruk im to prideful i cant pay someone to build my truck for me. and if god did that and my job found out about it they make us work then to so that idea is out. MikeN im mexican we cant drive anything stock its against our religion. haha

Unless you've changed your enthusiasm and would prefer something different, or have to pay for storage, I'd suggest hang on to it. Perhaps rather than having the mindset to "start the build" you can just do some small projects on the weekend that keep interest alive, even it it's just to preserve the parts.

We've all had sellers remorse. I don't remember a case of keepers remorse.

I say get it driveable and drive the crap out of it. I have had mine for 21+ years ( 2 blown motors, two transmissions, countless other stuff) and I am so glad I didnt sell, I do a little each year, now I am saving for paint.

Unless you need to sell it due to a hardship my advice is keep it.

Just having it there is inspiration and motivation. At some point you will have the time to start working on it again. Jobs come and go, you owe it your truck to keep it.

Im with MarkeB - and actually this is exactly what ive been doing and its working! I too am very pressed for time, and this is actually suppose to be my daily driver (not been on the road in about a full year!)

First, decide on the style/design/parts list (it sounds like youve done this already)
Now on paper lay out all of the projects necessary to get to your end vision - Start with big categories (Drivetrain, Body, Chassis, etc) then list all fo the stuff within those categories to do - Now each of those things will have a sub set list and so on - Once its all on paper, get to work - One line item at a time.


It sounds simple, and stupid maybe, but this has kept my focus, so im not just lost sitting there with a beer staring at a dead rolling chassis each night telling myself i cant get sh1t done.

Even if I only have 15 minutes of time - I look down the list and pick out something thats doable in that time frame - Get it done and cross it off the list.

No haven't lost interest in it by any means but just started having feelings of wasted money or hating to see a truck just sit there and parts collecting dust just cuz I don't has time for it right now. I want to build it and drive the he'll out of it. Just don't kno when I could even get started on it.

Keep it. Just buy one of those enclosed shelters to keep it in. My truck has been apart 15 years(wow). I still work on it a little at a time. I wanted it done so bad, i bought another one(lol). Now i drive that one and work on both. Talk about a money pit! Keep it if you can!

you know, i put mine up for sale not long ago...but i only did this because i found another one that i wanted more...unfortunately i didn't get the other truck, so i vowed to just keep mine & fix it to my liking....if you don't forsee anytime in the near future when you can work on it, i'd just sell it....then you can get something more complete that you can drive now....but if you have a vision for this truck & don't think you could come up with something else worth replacing it, then i'd just hold on to it until you can finish the build

Do you want to hang around one day with your friends with your leg kicked up on the bumber of a cool truck telling them all about it OR sitting in the back yard in a lawn chair telling a storie about the one that got away???

At least you get to look at yours, I have had mine over three years now and have been deployed for 2 of those. I just do what i can when i can.

You know I used to chuckle at my Father-in-law . He had 1 year projects ,5 year , 10 year, and 20 year projects (buildings and sheds). As I get older I am beginning to understand. Some things take time to finish.
Save up money while you are working. Buy your parts so they are there when you get a few hours , start in on it . Just remember to have fun!!

Only you know what's best. Many here will say keep it until the 'timing' is better & I agree. That being said, you sound like you've already thrown in the towel on the project so sell it & move on.

thanks for everybodies in put, im gonna think about it next couple days. i mean wheather i keep it and finish it or not its not gonna be my last project. ive had three other 60 model trucks, i sold them but only cuz they were to cousins and uncles so i still see them.if i decide to let this one go i'll change bodystyles or maybe even get back into riding motorcycles again. likaroc13 kinda summed it up, (if you don't forsee anytime in the near future when you can work on it, i'd just sell it....) so im gonna see what i come up with and make my decision. thanks again everybody
