Need help with Fuel Line Routing

Hey guys,

Today I am doing some plumbing work on my "Cletus" project. My truck is going to be all stock and I'm having trouble finding stock fuel line routing pics for the dual tank stock trucks. I've found them by the primary switching valve, however I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how they were routed down the frame rail. Specifically, the primary fuel line, on the K series trucks...did that get routed over the rear spring perch of the front leaf spring or through the spring shackle along the bottom of the frame rail???

Most of the pics I'm finding in my searches are with the LSx swaps and I don't want to assume those would be the same.

Any tips would be appreciated, but any and all pics you can find will be worth their weight in gold.

Oh - also I am really struggling with figuring out how the factory did the vapor lines....I think it was only the fuel and return lines that went through the dual tank selector switch, so were the vapor lines brought together in a "T" connection by the tanks, and then routed up front or were they routed individually?

I have a dual tank 83 C20 with no vapor recovery system - stock from factory that way, considered heavy duty truck, just vent hoses at the sending units. I just extended the vent hoses to the spare tire area to eliminate gas smell in the cab area. Don't know if this helps, but here are pics of my set up now:

hey Charlie! as for the vapor lines... mine were routed individually. with the driver side routed on the outside frame rail from the factory

Thanks Dennis! I'm curious about how the vapor lines were T'd together near the vapor canister in the front? Do you have a pic of that by any chance?

The thing that is messing with my head is that I ordered a full kit of stainless lines from Classic Tube and their kit has the vapor line on the driver side going over to the passenger side and landing right next to the passenger vapor line. It left me wondering how the heck to get those two lines from the tanks into the one stainless line going up to the cannister up front.

darn buddy.... i just cant remember for the life of me how they went. i don't think i have any pictures either. i'll look now though just to be sure. i know someone here has to know

ok charlie i got it! if there is 2 tanks, there should have been 2 canisters for the vapor. the driver side follows outside the driver side frame rail and the passenger side follows the routing of the brake lines until it gets right above the steering gear box. here's the pics i found...

see the pipe sticking up in the last pic above where the steering gear box would be? that goes to the bottom canister for the pass. side gas tank. the driverside is a metal tube that a hose attaches to that you can see running through the master cylinder line coils in the last pic. that attaches to the top canister on the fender. i hope this helps buddy

The fuel lines run *above* the upper shackle bolt. I went through this last year myself on a 79 K truck. It's a tight fit, but it will go.

Thanks! I kinda came to that conclusion yesterday because I should couldn't find a way to fish the line through under it, but I really appreciate your confirmation. Makes me feel better! You are right though, it's a tight fit for sure!
