Re: WTB buddy bucket seat foam

The complete set of foam I bought was through board vendors by checking the best price. That has been a while. Then it was $500 for the set. The price increased right after I bought mine too. (Only one US company makes the replacement foam that I know of)
Might try a local guy to custom cut some foam for you to beat that price. Someone that does a lot of boat work can hook you up. Good Luck.

Re: WTB buddy bucket seat foam

I will still sell you the USA-made American Cushion foams for $250 per seat (1-bottom & 1- back) plus shipping. I will box and deliver them at no extra cost.
Shipping is about $30-40 per seat (two boxes).
PayPal or Visa/MC is OK with NO extra fees charged.

I also have new seat covers for these seats: vinyl original and houndstooth.

Re: WTB buddy bucket seat foam

Wowza. That's a helluva lot better price than I'd seen previously. Exorbitant foam cost is one of the main reasons my buddy buckets have been sitting untouched in the garage since I bought them -- the initial purchase price seemed fair enough, but I had no idea how crazy foam prices were! This brings it back into the realm of feasibility. Thanks, burb71!

Re: WTB buddy bucket seat foam

Well look at that..."China Specials"!
They are about $100 per seat cheaper than those made here in the USA.
I didn't see China or Import mentioned in their ad. Quality is always the question with imports, but I have checked and I can sell these imports too, if you want them.

I can even offer a little better price on those imports and you don't have to buy both. I will sell them one seat at a time with a discount if you buy both seats.
One seat (2 pcs): $150 + shipping.
Both seats (4 pcs): $275 + shipping.

You aren't kidding. As someone who does upholstery work I can tell you foam prices keep going up and up.

If anyone does get these I would be interested in knowing the quality. Like PICKMUP said it can be an issue with some molded foams. I have seen issues with fitment, sizing, foam density and foam compression rate in some lower quality foam. For instance I had a fellow that brought in some JC Whitney buns for his Corvette this past spring, they fit poorly and had a very low compression rate. I showed him the problems with them before going ahead but he was glad to have saved the money.

Re: WTB buddy bucket seat foam

I don't know squat about foam or upholstery, but I do understand numbers if they're put in front of me. I'd be interested in knowing factors such as density, compression rate, etc. of the USA foam vs. the overseas foam.

For what it's worth, I just got off the phone with Parts Unlimited, Inc. (800-342-0610, the source of the eBay foam) and while the production is done overseas, the tooling/patterns are their own design. Doesn't sound like it's just a Chinese warehouse pumping the stuff out to 93 different vendors who label it as their own like some other parts. I didn't know enough to ask other relevant questions.

At any rate, I'm sure you get what you pay for, at least to an extent. In the cases of both the USA and the overseas foam, it would be nice to see some numbers so we actually did know what exactly we were paying for.

Re: WTB buddy bucket seat foam

If these measure up to the quality of the American cushion foams then one of our vendors need to see about stocking them. The only thing that keeps most of us from getting those buckets that we have stuck up in the loft restored is the price of the foams.

What are the compression and density specs on the USA foam? Looking for an objective means of comparison and this seems the most meaningful. Thanks.

PT
According to the PUI website, a number of the "usual" vendors carry their stuff, including Classic Industries, LMC, Classic Parts of America (formerly Chevy Duty), etc. Of these three, a quick scan of their respective websites shows that CI is $280/side (not a typo!), LMC is $150/side (only sold as a set), and CPA is $140/side.

Re: WTB buddy bucket seat foam

brossow I know there are many PUI vendors out there. What I was saying is if these buns are good quality buns and they measure up to the high $ ones then we need to get a board vendor to carry them. I would rather spend my $ here then on ebay.

Thanks PT
