well.. i started tearing into my front end this morning so i could clean it up and replace all bushings and ball joints, and i kinda expected a little tension on the coil spring when i dropped the lower arm, and the spring didnt move at all. i took the rest apart and it seems that the spring has 2 coils wedged into the upper spring socket, as if someone jumped it or hit somethin really hard.

any ideas on getting this out safely without damaging other parts or myself??

btw, not planning on keeping this spring, so i was thinking plasma cutter unless you guys have any ideas to just get it out and i could possibly save the spring.

here are a couple pictures of what im workin with.. i left the lower arm on so i might be able to compress the spring and try that route.. but i think im gonna have to end up cutting it..

Raise the LCA enough to contain the spring should it try to shoot out, then kick the spring a few times with your foot or hit it with a 5 pound sledge...it'll pop loose. Same thing happened to my 77 on one side. When mine came loose, it just fell down, there wasn't much, if any tension on it at all.

ill give it a try, but i tried using my prybar wedged between the spring and the perch and it wouldnt move at all, do you think the lower arm would relieve that much tension?

YES... i used a large prybar to pop mine out not much tension when i did it

could always sawsall it too

well.. its out.. it took the gentle persuasion of a ratcheting tie down(now broken), two rather large pry bars and a hammer.. and it was locked in there tight.. you guys must have had it made with yours.. this one was tough. but thanks for the input you guys, im just glad i was able to save the coil.

btw... anyone need any 1/2 ton front coils??
