Gas Pedal and Tac Module

I have an ls2 out of a trailblazer ss. The year of the trailblazer is 2006 and it did not come with a dbw pedal or tac module(I don't think) so I was wondering what years I could get a pedal out of and if a pickup would be the same as the trailblazer. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You would be much better off using a pre-2003ish LS mechanical cable operated throttle body and not use any of the electric throttle pieces. Whatever tuner you plan on using can toggle off the drive by wire calibration in the ECM as well as turn off EGR, torque management, etc. I went this route on my 8.1L.

The only upside to using the electronic throttle is if you plan on running cruise control. Cruise is much easier to add to an LS engine if you go the electronic throttle route. Everything is a compromise. I chose durability over convenience

Call up a dealer and ask for the part numbers. Then go on car-part.com and get what you need. I just had to do this for my TAC.

I am a fan of DBW. I used a 2005 SSR 6L in my swap - that is the same platform as the Trailblazer. I was able to use a DBW pedal from a base Trailblazer (much cheaper). By the way, the ECM doesn't mind telling you if you try to use the wrong one. You don't need a TAC module with these later model engines, all included in the ECM.

Thank you very much, just the information I was looking for. I figured I could get away with a base trailblazer pedal but wasnt sure and I didn't know there isn't a TAC module so thank you very much.

I am NOT a fan of what you’all call “DRW”. If this was for a long distance overland rig going from Alaska to Argentina I would definitely say to pass on “DRW” for durability sake but for city slickers going from one show and shine to the next the “DBW" will be fine.

Late model engines have nothing do to with TAC modules nor not.. Some vehicle platforms run an E38 Engine controllers while others still ran a P59 controllers right up to today. E38 controllers that speak GM LAN do not require a TAC modules while the older design P59 ECM do. E38 ECMs are much smaller than P59 ECM’s and speak GM LAN language which not many aftermarket tuners have been able to crack the new language for a good quality tune for swaps.

The Trailblazer SS used both P59 and E38 ECM’s so look closely at what ECM you got.

The engine controller in the lower right hand corner is an E38 ECM which does not require a TAC module but can be more of a hassle to custom tune.


This one is a P59 ECM which does require a TAC module and is much more flexible to special tunes. This ECM is forgiving if you chose to go with a tune that does not require “DRW” such as I went with.

Thank you for the information, because I know nothing when it comes to these things, but I do recognize that I have the E38 ECM. I think I might just talk to whoever I decide to re-tune the computer and see what they think. Thanks for the great information though.

And I figured I would just go with the "dbw" because I thought it would be easier since I have all the stuff and that is what the engine normally came with.

Larry,

The first picture is an E40 computer, and it is well hacked. Fully tunable as near as I can tell.

It is not clear to me that the DBW would be less reliable, they seem to be pretty bullet proof. It would be harder to fix if it broke so if I was going Alaska to Argentina give me a cable too.

The P-59 computer is a little older than what I was talking about.

Ah…I didn’t recognize it as the 3 pin E40 at first. Good to know the tuners have been able to get into those. I know they were struggling for a while. We are already using a newer version of that controller in production now. It is called an E78. The Delphi E38, E40, E67 and E78 are all very nice controllers.

Unfortunately, DBW is not bullet proof. In fact, right now the most commonly used throttle body (12629992) is on intergalactic back order. Apparently, Hitachi has some internal problem with it leaving a lot of V8 trucks stranded.
