1972 2wd Jimmy console question

I recently bought a 1972 2wd Jimmy. It is very original and I bought it from the original owners son. It is pretty basic. Power brakes but no power steering (that is going to change). Because it was bought orginally in far south Arizona, it does have factory air. I knew it did not have a console in it when I bought it, but knew that was not a problem because I already have several. I was looking at which console I was going to install and started looking closely and there is no evidence this truck ever had a console in it. I thought all first generation Blazers/Jimmys had bucket seats and a console. Did some of them not get a console? Unfortunately the SPID is not readable.

I'm pretty sure you could get one with a bench seat.

Re: 1972 2wd Jimmy console question

Mine never came with a console. I believe it was an option in the CST interior, but was not offered with the utility buckets due to them being slightly larger. Also note that if you do have utility buckets, that the bolt holes have different spacing than the CST Buckets, so swapping directly isn't easy.

Your truck sounds like mine. I has 6 cyl, power brakes, heavy duty front suspension, heavy duty clutch, spare tire and the top. I am fairly certain mine was ordered as a plow truck.

My old '72 2wd was listed as a "Utility' on the title.
It had 2 bucket seats, no console and no back seat.
It was a 350/4-speed blazer

Re: 1972 2wd Jimmy console question

Mine was also marked on the title as Utility. It has the regular bucket seats (not utility buckets) and it does have the correct back seat. It is also a 350 and a 4 speed. There are no holes where a console would have been located. I am convinced it never had a console. It sounds like that is possible. Did they, in fact, deliver these from the factory with a bench seat?

Re: 1972 2wd Jimmy console question

I don't think there was a factory bench seat. Every order form I have seen has not shown one. The base of the base truck only has a single driver's bucket seat, unlike the trucks that had bench for the base.

AFAIK, no Blazer / Jimmy was ever delivered from the factory with a bench seat. They all came with buckets, all years.

Re: 1972 2wd Jimmy console question

you could order just a driver seat. no passenger. I heard many sales people didnt know this in '69 and when they showed up with 1 seat they had to deal with it by adding one. Ive seen pics of the 3 different seating configurations in brochures. never seen or heard of one though.

I don't have a lot of pictures, but I will post a couple. You may have seen this from a link on craigslist. I have seen a couple of Blazers that had bench seats in them, but they were obviously owner added.
