Re: What did you get done 3/6/11 edition

Delivered my buddy's 84 C-10 back to his house after completing a motor swap. Scored a smoking deal a couple months ago on a non-smoking 305 to replace the smoking leaking 305 in his truck. The smile on his 70 year old face was worth every minute I spent on the truck.

Rained all day today so I hunkered down in the garage and worked on my 50'.

Re: What did you get done 3/6/11 edition

Pulled the motor and tranny out of the parts truck. Stripped most of the other parts as well. After I pull the steering column it will be ready for the scrap yard.

not much, got two fenders and lower grille metal filler panel. One of the fenders was a GM replacement. Not sure what to do with them yet, may wind up cutting them up for my burb eventually, not sure.

Re: What did you get done 3/6/11 edition

Nothing on my truck. Raining. Worked on a four wheeler. The owner rolled it, and it wouldn't run after. Cleaned the carb out first. Gotta pick up a new spark plug today. Then I gotta "test it."

Cleaning the carb wasn't a easy task. It is a Suzuki, and the carb is under a ton of crap, and has about fifty hoses hooked to it. Managed to get it out though. One of the screws for the bowl was FUBAR'd so I took a hack saw and cut a groove for a flat blade screw driver. Then I called my Father out to the shop for a second pair of hands. He took a chisel, and a hammer and tapped on the corner of the screw while I held the carb. That broke the screw loose.

Put the carb back on, and it was getting fuel now, but no start. So I pulled the plug and checked to see if it fires. Yep. Timing correct? Yep. Fuel making it to the cylinder? Yep. Try starting with starting fluid? No bang... So now I'm just going to pick a plug up. Got a feeling that the plug isn't firing correctly under load.

Re: What did you get done 3/6/11 edition

I done Plugs/wire/cap and rotor on the dually, and rechecked the timing. Idles smoother than before- but is still sputtering some while accelerating. Will move on to the fuel system basics next(filter, pressure test).

Make sure the kill switch didn't get bumped to the "off" position in the slightest--they are extremely sensitive. I've seen it happen before.

Re: What did you get done 3/6/11 edition

Picked up 16' more pallet rack. Put a fuel filter in my rebuilt carb, just need a choke unloader rod and it can replace the carb on the 77 (which doesen't have the rod either. Dang.). Got the steel crank pully hung on the diesel, just have to figure out how I tensioned the PS belt last time. Worked on cleaning up my scrap pile. Measured up a clutch hole for Tx Firefighter.

Re: What did you get done 3/6/11 edition

New job has had me busier than usual and coming home tired until I get the mess I walked into cleaned up.

I did finally order a new dash pad for the C-30 this week. Will update the dash and door trim in the process as well. With some elbow grease cleaning on the door panels, seat and sheet metal plus installing the new dash gauge bezel that I got this winter the interior should come out looking fairly good.

Also had to take it out Friday afternoon to get a new inspection sticker. First time it's been out on the road since last December actually. While driving and looking at that dash it was then I decided it was time for a new one. That old one isn't going to get any nicer!

At least it's ready to go to work for another 6 months. Passed Illinois safety inspection without a problem and have that much needed new sticker in the windshield now.

Now if the weather will just warm up soon!

Mark

Re: What did you get done 3/6/11 edition

Pulled off my old dash cover to find a original dash pad underneath. Goota fill some cracks and what not, but it should be worth it. Installed a 08 Malibu onstar mirror, and almost finished wiring the auto dim for it. Also will be buying some nice rallye wheels for it.
