1 piece driveshaft on a longbed

Anyone running a 1 piece driveshaft on a 2WD longbed? I got the complete rear suspension kit from Air Ride Technologies which includes a new crossmember that doesn't accept the mounting of a carrier baring. Called Denny's driveshaft, and they won't build one that long for safety reasons.

I think your going to run into that problem everywhere you go. I had people that was nervous about making one for my shortbed.

Re: 1 piece driveshaft on a longbed

I am running one also..my 4/6 drop was doing this to my carrier bearing[Below}
talked to my driveshaft guy and was within the maximum overall length he requires..without going to a giant diameter aluminum unit..my truck has a T-400 tranny{I installed} so the overall length might be different than a stock ride. Smooth as silk!

Re: 1 piece driveshaft on a longbed

the 73-87 long beds (or at least the one i had) came with a one piece drive shaft from the factory, so i don't know why one couldn't be made for one of these

A longer tailshaft on the trans,as well as engine placement, let the 73-87 trucks run a shorter lenght 1 pc shaft. crazyL

Re: 1 piece driveshaft on a longbed

we build them. Pretty sure we make them out of 3" tubing. As long as you're not running an od trans w 411 gears the lenth shouldn't be a problem.

Also no low crossmember that trailing arms connect to. All the '73 and later rigs were leaf sprung.

Brad Man 72

I have a Turbo 400 in a shortbed '69, and I am having a one piece driveshaft built. My measurement comes out to 59" from the splined trans shaft to the center of the U-Bolt cup . Do you think that will work OK?

brad_man_72, I'd like to get one ordered. Do you have some ordering information for ordering a custom driveshaft?

Re: 1 piece driveshaft on a longbed

I had a driveline shop build mine. I never had any issues with problems. The truck comes with a built in driveshaft loop anyway.
