how do you leave your truck alone?

I am pretty happy with the way my c10 been running. I didn't do anythig but put gas in it for 3 monts. I might have a gas leak somewhere but I don't see. Everybody keeps asking me what's the next project. I do want to do overdrive trans conversion later down a road. How do you guys keep temptation down from doing or fixing something that dosn't need it?

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?

As long as you keep it running/driving and do small things, you will not lose interest, IMHO. Plan on taking it down for a weekend or two to do anything "major" (like a trans swap) Research and get your parts lined up as best you can. Plan on at least one run to the parts house while in progress....and give it a shot.

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?

if mine is running I spend all of my money on gas, so it work out pretty good.
I have plenty of other projects also, never a shortage of things to spend money or time on.

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?

I have 3 4x4 trucks, one of each brand. The golf cart in my avatar, and a quad. I also have several other engine powered toys...

I can't leave any of them alone, so any advise I could give is of no use to you. LOL!

My back (herniated disc), no money, and the high temperatures have kept me away from the truck for weeks :-(

My system includes basic hand tools only, no shop / garage, and just enough talent for basic maintenance.

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?

Being deployed to Afghanistan pretty much does it for me, but I buy at least one part every payday to keep me from going stir crazy while out here. I also got back in school and finished my degree so that helps! LOL Now no more school = more time to stay on this site and get ideas for the next piece of my project!

If you ever find the answer to that question please let me know. This hobby is like drug addiction: It's pretty cheap to get started (buying the project truck) and you only do it on the weekends. When you do it (start and complete small projects), it makes you feel good...REAL good. Next thing you know you are doing it more than just on the weekends. It begins to take up more and more of your time, searching the web for parts and people with the same interests (this board). After a short time it becomes a full blown addiction. Before you know it your truck is in 100's of pieces and your wife is asking where all the money went. Be careful...it's a disease!

How do I leave my truck alone?

Take frame to powder coater, wait three weeks for it (supposed to take one week) take home, spend weekend assembling, find rust seeping thru coating, spend the next week arguing with powder coater,( Indiana law requires that I give them one more chance to get it right before I can sue) wait two more weeks for them to get frame back in, take frame back in (thursday---- finally) their air compressor breaks down (today) wait some more while beating my head on the wall.

See? Simple!!

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?

I put my lawnmower, carpentry tools, and other assorted broken things that need fixing lying in the path to the driver side door. Just as a reminder to all the things I need to do still.

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?

How I leave my truck alone.

Well Im 16 and my truck is my only vehicle and it sitting on jackstands behind my grandpas shop with a empty engine bay and a stripped interior. My mom doesnt like me driving her car over their so only time I get to work on it is when I can get a ride over to the shop. This is the worst way for my truck to be left alone. So I sit in front of the computer all day on this site and order parts from lmc or brothers.

I think I enjoy working on mine more than I enjoy riding in it for the moment But a 4/6 drop and a set of wheels might change my mind
