Picked up my Blazer seats from the upholstery shop today

As the title indicates, I picked up my Blazer seats today from the upholstery shop. The guy who did them is a friend and did a really nice job. I am pleased.

Yes, they are the Utility buckets. Had the back seat done to match. Have a great weekend with the family.

Re: Picked up my Blazer seats from the upholstery shop today

Thanks guys. Thought the hounds tooth would be more comfortable in the sun. When I put it back together, I am not going to put the hardtop on it, but I am going to put a soft top on. However, it will probably be down most of the time when outside of the garage.

I'm in the middle of havng my 2wd Blazer painted, it has the utility buckets from when I bought it. I NEVER thought of using them until I saw yours, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not mean to be nosey, but what did it cost to have the front and rear seats done? I'm only asking because I'll probably have to make my interior chioces pretty soon. Thanks

Are you going to use a console? What kind if you are?

Re: Picked up my Blazer seats from the upholstery shop today

The upholsterer is a friend and he made and installed the covers for under $600, probably about 1/2 of what he would normally charge. I actually feel a little guilty as he supplied the materials too.
I have a 73 ? cupholder console that I restored that I plan on using if it fits. Some have indicated that it won't fit between the utility buckets. The Blazer is still at the paint shop so I can't test fit yet. I wanted the cupholder console as opposed to the correct seat belt holder as I have found that it is a little clumsy holding a cup of coffee in a travel mug while driving (especially in my shortbed with a 4 spd stick).

Note: I dropped off and picked up the Blazer seats in my 70 Burb. I only keep the front bench in it and you could bowl in the back. Love that big old Burb.

Yep, it fits! Got one in mine with utility seats. That is a good price, b/c I paid 400 for just the original pattern
When do you get it out of paint?

Re: Picked up my Blazer seats from the upholstery shop today

That's good news on the console.
I am hoping pretty soon. The guy does great work, but he does it nights and weekends as he works a regular job in a body shop. It is about ready for primer. It will have all its original sheet metal except for rockers. He has had it since April 3, but got married/honeymoon etc. between now and then. I think I have just about everything to put it back together (except new tires and a softopper), so I am getting a little antsy to get it back. Hopefully it will be ready to roll next spring.

Re: Picked up my Blazer seats from the upholstery shop today

Just be careful on sliding the console in between the seats as it will rub, make SURE there are no burrs on your screws that bolt the two halves of the console together. It will scratch the vinyl

Good luck with the build, looks like you are putting quality parts in it....

Re: Picked up my Blazer seats from the upholstery shop today

Very nice! Looks great in houndstooth!!!

FYI to those looking and considering costs.....I also recovered my utility buckets and had the rear seat covered, carpet glued down and installed (he cut all the holes out and trimmed to fit), and custom front door panels made and installed and custom rear panels made and installed....all for 1200.....

The seats were only 500 of that....but I did cloth and vinyl...not houndstooth....

it comes down to finding someone who is either new to the business trying to build a client base (like mine was) or trying to jump into the resto market...or really slow...

...I went to two large shops in the area and they wanted 2500-2800 for the same work....so I got a really good deal and the quality was very nice...on par with what came out of the large shops...

Re: Picked up my Blazer seats from the upholstery shop today

im about to pick up my seats from the upholstery shop next week as well.
im using that same houndstooth cloth which i bought 3 square yards for $90 a yard, but instead of black im using white marine grade vinyl.. it should look pretty cool, my blazer is hugger orange with a white stripe down the side so the white should go well and not get as hot in the sun.. unfortunately i couldnt afford to buy the original buckets to go with the original back bench but i bought some seats out of an 84-89 nissan 300zx. im not really into the high back seats and i wanted to get it as close to the original as i could so i took off the head rests so now they're more of a low-back seat. like the originals, the buckets have a flat rounded top to the back rest but they have a little more curvature and are little bigger(so i assume more comfortable) so it should result in a more modern seat while still bringing back the original look due to the houndstooth upholstery.
i will post pictures when i get them back next week

Re: Picked up my Blazer seats from the upholstery shop today

I bet that Blazer will be sweet looking. I am looking forward to your photos. I wanted to have my Blazer painted Hugger orange to match my 70 short bed 4X4, but the wife was set on 514 red. She puts up with my truck disease, so I am using her choice.
