Widened wheel tubs

Anyone have pics of their stock looking widened wheel tubs for a 66 Fleetside?

Looks like I'm going to have to widen mine. From what I can tell, they at least have to be widened so the inside edge lands on the wood and not a bed strip.

Anyone make widened fiberglass (or metal) stock style tubs (wheel house)?

Thanks again!

By the way, I did a thread on this about a year ago, but didn't know if anything new has come up.

Re: Widened wheel tubs

You don't have much wood between the stock wheel tub and the next bed stip. If I remember right it's only about an inch, but if that's all you need it will be worth it. I widened mine by 2 1/4" but I also made a raised bed floor that's probably not going to be topped by the original style wood kit, so I wasn't worried about where the inside edge of the tub was going to fall. I just measured for some 12" wide tires and put the support where I wanted then measured how much to widen the tub. I'll figure out the bed wood when the time comes. Check my build thread about 4 pages from the end and let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Widened wheel tubs

I am doing a set now that we are making 2 inches wider by using 2 tubs. Mine were thin and a little beat up on the inside but the side that met the bed were good. I got a pare from Top Banana and cut the first inch off of them and then cut three inches off the old ones. The fit was almost perfect, the stampings are very close.

Re: Widened wheel tubs

I am a big fan of the extra wide stock looking tubs.....It gives a real leathal look i think . My Pro street truck tubs are probaly a little wider then your thinking but I took out my rolled tubs and built a more wide factory look as well by doubling out two wheel tubs.

Re: Widened wheel tubs

Thanks Guys!
I like the look of the tubs on the yellow truck. Pretty much what I was looking for. I was thinking that the holes on the front and rear were supposed to line up with the bed strips. On that one, it does not. Looks great though.
Thanks again!

i looked at top banana site and couldnt find tubs - im needing to widen mine too but was thinking of running a 2" strip down middle - twice the welding and smoothing though so Ive been stalling big time - i like your idea better taking 2 making one!

I used two sets of inner fleetside wheel wells to do mine. Just in case, here's a couple of photos of mine right after I finished widening them.

Re: Widened wheel tubs

Looks great Vin. Looks like you didn't line up the areas where the hole lines up with the bed strips. Any problems? Or did you just smooth that out?

@blackmopar

I just ordered a set from TB about an hour ago.
I did a search for 'house' on their website and it brought them up.

I was trying to avoid landing the edge of the tub on the mounting strip because I have to notch the bed wood further inboard of that strip to clear the width of the tire. Let us know how you like the tubs you purchased.

Re: Widened wheel tubs

AH, okay. understand.
tubs are on the way. I'll take part of my old tubs (probably the nearest to the bedside) and use a majority of the new tubs I'm getting.

@1Bad62Pro/Street
I had something like that polished alum bed in my truck I did 15 years ago.
Going more for a stock style look this time.

I actually like that! Any more pictures?
Where did you get the aluminium?
Make the roll beads your self? Pre-formed?
Pops keeps saing that if I line the sides and head board with aluminium it will draw in moisture between the aluminium and metal causing rust. Did you experience this?
Just a few questions!

Re: Widened wheel tubs

I ended up widening my tubs on Th. Got them in primer on Friday.
I widened them 3.5 inches. I decide not to 'double' them like the white one just posted and the red one. I didn't want to go as wide as them (I think I ended up about 3" narrower than the white and red one). I will have to re-arrange the wood, but I think it will work out though.
I used this black tub as an example to go by.

Re: Widened wheel tubs

Yes, I flattened those areas. The one's on the black tub example did to. Looks like they slightly lowered the bed strips to.
Since I only widened the tubs 3.5", I only had one area on the front and rear of each tub.
