Black liquid from exhaust?

I need some help. Whenever I start my '72 Longhorn I get a lot of black liquid from the exhaust. It appears to be soot mixed with water. It doesn't have the smell of gas. Once the truck is warmed up it stops. Any ideas? My wife doesn't appreciate the black spots in the garage.

Re: Black liquid from exhaust?

Its just condensation that builds up in the pipes overnight, mixes with soot in the pipes (seems you truck runs rich). Not much you can do about it except tell the wife the garage is man territory and not to worry about it

Problem is her trailblazer is parked right next to it and gets a nice coating of soot. Maybe I can talk her into parking out in the driveway and then my other truck can be parked in the garage.

Dual exhaust allows a nice buildup on her trailblazer and the wall all at once. I'll tell her to live with it....wish me luck!

Re: Black liquid from exhaust?

oh my lord, I hope she's not reading this, or he'll be making samiches in the garage...
Could also swap spaces in the garage to protect her car (but do this AFTER the new floor coating, and maybe you can parlay it into a new wall covering as well)

HA! Edit - too funny - was typing the above before you posted the dual exhaust tid-bit. DEFINITELY new floor covering. And to keep her car clean, buy another truck, put it in the garage and hers in the driveway.

Run em out the back, wont get on her trailblazer anymore, dump them under the truck, and it wont get on the blazer or the wall..

Re: Black liquid from exhaust?

I would work on the new floor coating first and tell her she is right and had a great idea because you don't want to ruin her truck or the cement either. Then new exhaust out the back later, that wife is awsome buying you all that stuff, she has good ideas.

With the cold weather and Ethenol in the gas you can't help it, your wifes will do the same thing except her moisture is cleaned up by the converter. Throw some card board on the floor and call it a day.

My mom always had the best advice. It was just a tad late. After a fall that involved blood, she'd say....."Careful!"

Re: Black liquid from exhaust?

Open garage door, start truck, put foot on brake, press gas pedal to floor, lay a black strip, tell wife a floor covering will prevent both. Problem solved. Then she will have something different to worry about.

Sorry.... I couldnt resist.......

Dont worry about the black soot and water. All will do it without a converter.

My wife just told me I had to fix and eat samiches in the DOG HOUSE.
