Big Blocks....Let me see them!

Ok, I tried a search, but couldn't come up with anything I really needed to see. The 350 in my 68 is shot, so I'm considering putting a Big Block in it. I considered an LSx swap, but it just takes so much to make the LSx engines "pretty", if you know what I mean. I found a good deal on a 402 which would be pretty sweet in my 68 stepper.

What I want to see in particular is engine stands used, headers or exhaust manifolds used, long or short water pumps, and your accessory drive kits, brackets and such.

Well, it's not technically bad again. It was just STILL bad from before. I just didn't realize it.

Got a link? It will mostly depend on what kind of rockers I end up using. I'm hoping to be able to keep short valve covers on it.

Re: Big Blocks....Let me see them!

These are tall, I have roller rockers on mine.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=501652

They were originally silver but whenever you touched them with your dirty hands / working on other stuff they're tough to keep clean. We painted them with Chevy Orange VHT but they could always be repainted / powder.

I'm in Knoxville quite a bit, either way .. sounds like you're undecided at this point but I thought you might be interested.

Re: Big Blocks....Let me see them!

I may be interested, but if something comes up before I decide, don't let that stop you. I'm really unsure on what I'm going to do. I also don't even know when I'm going to have the money to do anything. The truck may be inoperable for most of this year.

I've also considered just sticking a 290hp 350 crate engine in it and selling it. That's kind of drastic, but I've been very discouraged with my truck lately.

Re: Big Blocks....Let me see them!

Those motors are pretty stout. I had one in a 69 Camaro a while back. I built it up like an old DZ motor (LT1 finned valve covers, etc.) It was impressive.

I have heard you can pull 350~ hp out of one with a little massaging. Set of 64cc 041's or something. The bottom end is pretty good it just needs to breathe a little. I think they're cammed a little too. My ole Camaro hit a decent lick.

I'd buy another one, no question however mine had a problem with the valve seals. This has been years ago and I'm sure they're fixed by now but apparently it had 3.4L V6 valve seals in it? It lasted about 1000 miles and started smoking out the pass side. Just a little at first then got gradually worse. We pulled the seals out and they were shredded (the little caps on top were completely missing. I have pics somewhere)

But, for the money they're hard to beat. Drop some 64cc Dart IE (even cast) heads on it and I bet it would make a world of difference.

Good luck man. I hate to see you sell it. That's one of my favorite trucks on the whole site. Just sayin ..

Re: Big Blocks....Let me see them!

It's very doubtful that I would sell it. I would need top dollar out of it or I wouldn't sell it at all. The market for classic trucks isn't all that hot right now, so bringing top dollar probably ain't happening, so I'll probably build the engine I want for it and keep it.

Some pics of mine, I switched from a small block to the big block mid build, I should have just done it from the start. Mine has 68-71 frame stands and Hedman Chevelle Mid-Length Headers.

here's my Blazer. ..
Maybe just 'cause I'm OLD but I really like the kinda stock look like bob's409 picture... like the underhood look of a stock-ish '69 SS 396 Chevelle. Chevy orange engine, chrome valve covers & air cleaner, alum. intake, semi gloss black inner fenders.

My small block used to look like that. Don't worry... all it takes is a week off of work, a couple scraped knuckles, a gasket set and a couple shades of spray paint to get her shiny again.
