Red face My 69

I got this 1969 Chevy C-10 pickup with the 8 foot bed about 5-6 months ago. I have been putting it together and i rv and have a great deal i can get on a small 5th wheel trailer. Its 27 foot and can weight about 6800 pds max loaded. it would put say 1600 pds on the pin,(hitch). I have been looking all over for spec on the rear axle and the gcwr for the truck. The door panel has a tag that tells the gcw. thats 5000 pds on this one. . I am wondering if i can tow that trailer on this truck. I can change rear-ends if i need to. I did already put new 3.73's in it and a th400 Automatic trans waiting to go in. Someone back years ago put a six in it and a three on the tree. It had a 4 speed in it from the factory and a V-8. I am working on that V-8 right now but back to it. Do any of you have any idea what the specs are on this old truck?? When i can i will get a link to the Picasa Photo site where the pic's are. I sure hope it can. I can't afford another truck. If i tried...My other half,(not sure which half), would kill me!! Help, Dan

Re: My 69

throw new rear springs and shocks in there, along with some helper air bags, and maybe strengthen the frame some and I don't see a reason why it wouldn't haul whatever you wanted

Re: My 69

I will try some shots here, wish me luck. Computers are not my gig. They are somewhat old. I have added rv towing mirrors and am working on the rust on the bed. I had to rebuild the wiring harness and i am working on a 454 and a th400 for it. I am planning to pull this small 5th wheel trailer if i can. It has 3400pd axles and a gross weight of 6800pds. The pin or at the hitch the weight is about 1600pds. from 15-20% of weight of trailer on the pin. I heard that i can tow 7000pds. That would be cool. I really need to find out this info. I can add front discs and a heavier spring along with Bilsteins shocks. If i need to i can also add air-bags to it. That is fine for what it could do, but back to the rear axle, what can this semi floating axle handle with the 3.73 gear ratio? It had 3.4's in it. Worse come to worse, i could change the rear-end. I am guessing that my max could be 7000pds. If that is correct, I am in heaven. I am hoping to have it painted by mid march. it will be white with Blue stripe and have white inside with the same blue on the trim. I am also going to try and add a link to the Picasa site.

Re: My 69

https://picasaweb.google.com/oldtrains.martin011 I think this will get you to my pictures on picasa. I have the outside of the bed done. The tailgate is coming off for good. So is the cap. I am building a lowboy toolbox for the back of the bed. The other one is for the front of the bed. A 5th wheel will sit right in between. I am going to tuff coat the bed itself. I think it will look good when i get it done. I am 60 years old and feel like about 600 years old. But i do what i can as i can so i may not be around some days as i am too tired or busy with whatever work i am doing. Coffee!! Dan
