Need some plasma info

does any body have any experience with big plasma cutters? i am looking for one to cut 2" plus plate for the shop at work. i am tired of trying to cut thick plates with a torch to 1/8" tolerance. i have convinced the boss to get a plasma and need some advice. thanks.

Re: Need some plasma info

Its going to depend on whether you need a 2" quality cut or a 2" severing cut. But expect to pay between 5 and 6 K for a machine to do 2 in with any accuracy. I would stay with the major players like Lincoln, Miller, and Therm Arc

Re: Need some plasma info

well we found out there is only 1 plasma on the market that can handle that. the boss sain no to 15 grand for it. i found a steel supplier with a water jet that will cut 4" so that makes my life easier. on a good note i ordered a new mig and plasma today. we are getting a miller deltaweld 452 and a spectrum 875. cool thing about the plasma is i can use it on my truck welder.
