no...not a mess...although i did make a small puddle of blood.

I made a metal glove box for the one ton.
I followed someone's advice on here (can't remember who though) and removed the remains of the paper glove box and traced it out on some steel. Then took it to work and used a nibbler type cutter to cut it all out. Bend it up into the right shape, paint it black, mount it in and added a couple screws to hold the sides together.
I tried moving it around a little to see if it was going to rattle or anything and it all looks good. But I was afraid all the crap I'll put in there will rattle so i cut out some 1/16 (or so) thick rubber and glued it in.
Worked out pretty dang cool IMO.
Then, while I was at the junk yard rippin another tilt out of a van, (which resides in the GMC now) I nabbed the glove box light assembly out of it. You can't really see it in the pic, but the orange-ish light reflecting on the black paint is from the bulb.
Well worth the blood spent.
(the real awsome part is the fact I have absolutly no $$ wrapped up in this mod...just my time which isn't worth too much)

Oh, i installed these today too. The big one has been in the GMC for ever...but the little one was in the van that donated the tilt to the GMC.
The junk yard guy laughed when i showed him and told me to keep it...no charge.
I love that yard.

not a bad idea. I once made one of wood for my 72 bug where I installed a sweet stereo. I left the old POS in the stock location to fake out some of the crooks. Well one day someone opened the trunk and took the entire wood box. Great.....I just made the stereo and CDs easy to cary for the stupid thief. Oh well it was time for a chevy anyway

I made one as well out of some tin. It actually looks very similar to Longhornsmails, but I took it out when I started putting in my CD player, and it's sitting at my freinds place right now. Oh...and my truck is in san antonio.....acheing with a broken heart.....and acheing for a 350

supercheyenne, I slit it in through the front. It wasn't screwed together yet so it was still flexible. I would not even try to do this on an asembled A/C truck.
RaceDvl, I did not. As I was tighteneing the last screws I thought about it and bout kicked my sell in the tail pipe.
All it takes though is a semi-good paper one to trace. Mine had 1/4 of the paper missin, so i just flipped it over and kept on tracing.

Not a bad idea, i just bought a new cardboard box for my 72, But now that i have the old on I may think about haveing or making an Aluminium Diamond plated one. Nice and polished.
I see your line that holds up your door, Maybe the same idea with some small fine chain looking , Make it look like a tailgate..

It only takes one to start the ball roll'n!!!

hey, that's super cool! what gauge of sheet did you use? I have some laying around that I could cut up and try that out, but it may be too thin (I'm guessing it's about 24gauge)...

Dude, that glove box is cool as hell. I'm going to do that myself. I have a new liner from Chevy Duty (non-ac). I'll use that instead of the old one (the old one is in bad shape).

I couldn't tell you what guage the metal is...I don't mess with sheet metal, I don't know the thicknesses.
It is thinner than the metal on your hood...I can say that. (hope it helped?)
I should get more than 5 horses...I have 2 cool pedals...That should be 10 horses right?

Gotta love them feet. Reminds me of the days when I was riding in the back seat of my moms VW. She had those magnets they used to sell in the gumball machines along with the fuzzy feet stickers that we would as kids slap on any metal part of the dash/car.

I wish i woulda taken measurments or something...I been getting e-mails out the ying-yang.
I kept no measurements, no template, and the cardboard one got pitched at the shop which would be long gone now.

you do know sheet metal gauge sizes, you just don't realize it.
sheet metal is sized by american wire gauge.
ex. 12 gauge wire is the same as 12 ga. sheet metal.
22 gauge wire is the same as 22 ga. sheet metal etc.

(not to be a no it all or nothin, just f.y.i.)
