rear axle rebuild

so i recently (term is used loosely) blew up my rear axle. i got a new used rear end and it needed a rebuild so i too it to a shop. needless to say 350 dollar rebuild turned into an 850 dollar rebuild. so now i am faced with doin it myself. i would love some tips. im pretty mechanically inclined so i know i can do it. any help is very welcome. thanks yall!

GM factory service manuals have very good instructions on the procedure and tools required to do the job right
