1972 Blazer axle swap

Hello – I hope someone can assist me... I need to know if I can use 1 ton rears out of an 87 k30 pickup in my 1972 blazer.

If not any idea as to the latest compatible year chevy I can pull axles out of without major modifications that will work in a 72 blazer?

Thanks

Re: 1972 Blazer axle swap

I have a 14 bolt and a Dana 60 from an 87 for my 72, the front D60 will bolt in. You should measure the distance between the leaf spring pads on the rear 14 bolt, mine look factory and match my blazer's leaf springs but you may need to relocate them.

Re: 1972 Blazer axle swap

In general, a 73-87(91) 1 ton 14bolt FF axle will have the correct spring perch width to bolt right into your blazer. A 1973+ 3/4 ton 14bff will NOT bolt right in because the frame is wider which means the spring perches are wider.

This info is for 1 ton trucks that had a regular pickup bed. If you start talking about 1 ton cab chassis trucks then its different again, but those should all be dually axles in their original form. I doubt you want a dually under your blazer anyway...but it has been done!
