The Journey

My name is Jay Sharpe and I'm beginning a daily driver build on a 67 short fleet.
My last truck build was a 63 long bed big window that Truckin' magazine picked as one of their top 100 trucks of all time! That was only going to be a daily driver too until, well you know how it goes.
We installed a 700R4 last week to replace the 3 on the floor it came with. The plan is to start the 6 lug to 5 lug change over with disc's etc.

Re: The Journey

Busy day today. I picked up a 70 big window cab that only had rust on the rocker panels (I'll post some pictures soon). I need to find a media blaster then it's off to the body shop.

Re: The Journey

That's a cool looking ride. Is that some kind of a roll pan thing up front?

Re: The Journey

Hey Jay, welcome aboard, nice looking truck, like the smooth front roll pan too, not much for normal builds, see it has front bumperettes, was the last owner made to put them on, we had a case like that here in town with the Law and instead welded a piece of pipe between the frame rails in the front and was exceptable. Will be watching for progress on it. Any pic's of the 63 you had, just bought a 66 2wd today to go along with my 71 4x4, all seasons.

Re: The Journey

Thanks for the nice comments, The front does have a roll pan but I really like the stock bumper look. I already pulled the "california look" nerf bars. Here are the pics of the big window cab.

Re: The Journey

I'm hoping I can use what I leaerned building the 63 but keep the price down. I quit my high dollar management job to care for my Dad the last year of his life about the same time the economy dumped. I do wish all the sponcers that were around after I finished the 63 were still around now!

Yeah, man I quit a high dollar job back in the spring. Money ain't everything, but this sure is an expensive hobby.

Re: The Journey

Thank goodness for Craigslist! I found a 350 4 bolt that came out of a 72 pick up! The guy said his Grand father left him the truck and he put a 383 in it. complete motor for only $200.00.
I've spent the week pulling it apart and apart from the sludge on the outside of the motor it is in excellent shape.

Re: The Journey

O.K. the engine went off to the the machine shop so to keep my hands busy I started working on the cab. I'm a total shade tree welder but it seems to be going good.

Re: The Journey

No updates for a while, I've been laying in the hospital! I went for a short motorcycle ride with a friend and ended up with 7 fractured ribs.
The good news is the motor is ready to pick up at the machine shop so I'll be keeping busy with that.

Re: The Journey

Hey all! sorry for not keeping this up but man have i been busy. A friend needed a place to store his 54 Lincoln Cosmo so I told him if he put in a 4 post lift he could store it as lomg as he wanted, so now we have a new Bend-Pak lift in the shop!
I finished building the 350 and it came out nice for a budget build.
I got sick of driving the truck at stock ride hieght so I picked up some 6" lowering rear springs and 2.5" drop spindles. Here are some pics.

Re: The Journey

I have a couple updates on the truck. I tried to order some Centerline smoothies but got a real run around from Centerline so I found some Boss 338's and picked those up. I have the front finished, and I'm waiting on rear axles to get the rear mounted. Once the wheels and tires are done we will get the motor in.

Re: The Journey

Hey long time no chat! I haven't stopped working on the project but life has got in the way a bit. I've moved to Sparks Nevada, and taken a job with Summit Racing! The Journey has a new rear end. I was tired of the tires rubbing on the narrow 67 rear end so I found a '70 wider rear put 3.73 ring and pinion, added an Eaton posi unit, then for good measure put some Wilwood discs on it. Yes I did get an inheritance to do all that.
By the way the old rear end is for sale so if you want a 12 bolt for your Camaro with new rear drums and CPP 5/5 rear axles PM me.
