35x12.5x16.5 anybody make decent mt tires?

my truck has 16.5 wheels. its got good tires for now, but been looking to see of the 16.5s were even made any longer. is there any options as far as tires? i found some auper swampers and bfg ats. would i be better off getting new wheels when these tires are shot,? and should i go 16s or 17s if so. thanks

The 16.5 wheels just aren't very common nowadays. The offroad and mudding crowd has kept them alive, you can still get tires for them, but only in the bigger sizes. I don't think anybody makes an economy tire designed for daily drivers in a 16.5 size.

That is unfortunate. What is the best size wheel if I will be running 35" tires?

super swamper SSR will last a long time for you and its radial. youll be very happy with it.

for your k20 personally i would put stock wheels on it and 9.00-16 co-op grip spur mud tires.

You can get military tires for cheep and they are 16.5's. I think they are 35x12.50 and 36x12.50. Last I saw were $100 a piece for 90% tread, only problem was maybe shipping, I think they were in texas. http://www.100dollarman.com/trucks.html is the website. I havnt ordered any because I am a tight a$$ and hate to spend money, but I do offer advice

my bad, they are 36x12.50 and 37x12.50. the 36s are hummer tires with good mud tread and the 37s are goodyears with mud tread

Had a friend running SSRs, they are indeed good tires. But at over $400 each, they're a little spendy.

Re: 35x12.5x16.5 anybody make decent mt tires?

I'm not sure of all the details, but I think I can only fit 16 inch wheels on my 3/4 ton if they are steel, the alloy wheels are too thick. That may limit your options just a bit.

However, I DO think you're better off with a 16" or a 17" wheel rather than trying to make the 16.5" work. As you have probably seen, your tire options are very limited, and often expensive. You could buy a complete new set of wheels and tires, designed for a daily driver, for less coin than a set of SSRs.

Yeah, i looked up the cost of the ssr and i about died. i did not expect that much. summit wanted more than $450 EACH. i was thinking it was for a pair or somthing until i read deeper.

I have 16.5 alloy wheels on it now and they are quite thick. The lug nuts spin on enough turns but it doesnt seem as much as i would like. I am going to keep my eye out for a set of 16s or 17s but i got a while until these tires are shot.

Id love to find an old set of 8 lug slot mag wheels. Like the ET's. they are just a cool old wheel.
thanks for the info.

Re: 35x12.5x16.5 anybody make decent mt tires?

From what I've seen 16.5s are cheaper than 16s,and of course 17 and larger. That's when prices shot up,when they started making silly larger diameters in every size under the sun. When they kept it simple prices were stable...even when oil went up or whatever other excuses you hear. It costs more money to make more tire sizes and sell less of each to the same market. That's what we get when we let gangsters start our trends Now Carharts and Timberlands cost more, too!

Re: 35x12.5x16.5 anybody make decent mt tires?

I went and found a set of Hummer H2 wheels on CL for cheap. They are 17 rims and came with 315/70/17 BFGs ( translates to 34.4" x 12.4"x17").... Sometimes metric size tires are less expensive then "35's"
