87 V10 Wiper problems

I have a custom 87 Chevy V10 Silverado with over 436,000 miles on it and a few years ago I started having problems with the wipers. First they wouldn't park intermittently. When I turn the switch off they just keep going. I would have to turn the switch back to mist briefly to get them to stop. Then the intermittent function was no longer working making pretty much all intermittent settings the Lo position, while Lo and Hi settings still works like they should. I have replaced the intermittent module and that changed nothing. I have not been able to figure out if it is the switch or if it is the motor itself. Anyone experience this before or have any thoughts?

I would lean towards it being the switch.

Re: 87 V10 Wiper problems

Does anyone have or know where I can obtain a wiring diagram for the wiper motor? I have figured out that my problem lies withing either the wiring to the motor or the motor itself but I am uncertain. The motor has two connectors on it and I am trying to find out what these connectors control. I had to mess with the connectors this morning and after unplug the upper connector and plugging it back in the wipers started working on low again and the mist function works correctly now. Intermittent still does not work and I have replaced that module under the dash. So I believe the problem is under the hood either the motor or wiring but would like to figure out what the wiring does or controls before I just buy a motor. The upper connector is the two wire and the lower connector is the three wire. Basically I am trying to figure out if there is a module inside the upper half of the motor. Oh and the upper connector was green inside on the terminals and the terminals on the motor so I know I need to atleast clean these terminals.

Re: 87 V10 Wiper problems

the park function is in the motor . It has a switch inside that senses where the wiper motor is in the sweep and when it gets to the "park area" it stops when the switch is off. The motor is supplied with 12V+ at all times when the key is on .The dash switch does 12v- switching . If the "park" switch in the motor is going bad it will do what your seeing . Replace the motor

It definatley doesnt "park" when I turn the wipers off I have to rock the switch back to the mist position to get them to park. And now if I try to use the intermittent function it will work once maybe twice before it just goes to constant on no matter where the switch is set in the intermittent range. I really wish I could find a wiring diagram for the engine side of the wiper motor wiring. I am starting to believe the problem is in the motor. I just wish I didnt keep forgetting to work on it except when it I need the wipers to work.
