'65 Clutch fork questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

When I drove my '65 Suburban back from California last year, the clutch had a terrible rattle in it that would subside when i rested my foot against the clutch pedal lightly. I dont' know if it was just the TO bearing that was bouncing around around the input shaft sleeve--or if it was the clutch fork that was rattling around. When checking the fork today(as I plan on putting the engine/trans back on the chassis), I noticed a cutout where the pivot ball goes that I thought might require a retainer clip in it. This thought was further reinforced by an image in my LMC Truck catalog. If anyone has any insight into this--please let me know. I just want to make sure this all goes back correctly--even though it may not have been correct before. Here's what I'm looking at..

If you look around the deep area of the cutout, there is a groove that I thought a clip may sit in...

In #7 in the diagram, a small clip is seen--but I don't have this item.. And, i never saw it in the removal of the parts.

Just looking for a little info before slapping all the drivetrain back together..

Yup, you definitely need the clip.

Just to be sure=that clip is what secures the fork to the pivot ball sir?

Does anyone have a part number for the clip? All the local parts stores are at a loss with my request.. Even with showing the pictures from LMC and my shift fork..

If you have a Napa store and they can't find it, you're probably going to have to order it from one of the aftermarket vendors. You could also hit some junkyards if they've got older stuff. The only other option would be to find an older GM dealership that has a pack rat for a parts man and doesn't throw anything away. I've found a surprising number of things this way.
