Wood Rear Bumper

Thinking ahead a bit on my project. I don't like the tube rear bumper currently on the back and thinking what I have around here brought up an idea for a wood rear bumper. Not sure if it's been done before nor if it would look good. Anyone seen something like this?

Let me emphasize, wood over the steel tube or structure. Not just a 2 x 4 bolted to the back.

Back in the day......the rear bumper on trucks was a dealer add on. Here in Oregon, alot of folks didn't pay for the upgrade and left without a rear bumper. Over the next few years, wood bumpers became common on the rear of several trucks around here. I still see a few when driving the backroads or neighborhood alleys looking for old stuff.

Maybe bolted over the tube that's currently there?

If it fits in with the "look" you want for your truck. A nice piece of hardwood with several coats of marine varnish or other marine (boat) wood finish might look pretty good.
It's something that some of us poor boys would have done in the early 70's when our total truck budget was usually under 1000.00 with a presentable paint job and seat in it.
My rear bumper is/was a piece of used 4 inch stainless steel pipe that I cut to length and my buddy welded end caps and stainless brackets on to make a finished bumper that kinda looked like those chrome pipe bumpers the gassers had/have on them. A vendor (for my work) gave me the end caps and the rest of it came out of the scrap bin at work.
