The most meticulously documented and maintained 72 Suburban in existence

Thanks for such a great site; I think you'll appreciate the family suburban.

EVERY single tank of gas ever put into this 1972 GMC has been recorded in its log books. The logs typically record Odometer, price per gal, # of gallons, octane and date. Other pertinent data about the fill up is often included too. Given the meticulousness of the data records, you can just imagine the maintenance and care level given.

This suburban is primarily a "terra-plane" for cross country family trips; and getting into it is just like going back to the 1970's (with the exception of a 1980's tape deck). If anyone knows of better documented burb, please let me know.

Here are some pics.

Great looking truck! The fuel log reminds me of my friends dad that always kept a log as well and probably still does to this day with his vehicles. It would be great to see some interior pictures as well.

Re: The most meticulously documented and maintained 72 Suburban in existence

Welcome back to 1972!. I haven't cleaned it up since the most recent trip, but decided to take some quick photos anyways. More details follow the pictures.

The only things not 1972 in the photos are the cassette deck and the shoulder belts. The shoulder belts were added because the family got tired of being pulled over by state troopers for "not wearing a seat belt". Other than those two items, that's the way it looked going on family trips.

The truck is a 1500 super custom and has 172K miles on it. But, I do need to get the log books out of storage to make sure that the odometer did not rollover twice. The vast majority of the miles are cross country family travel. Some time next year I'll put all the log data in Excel and churn out some numbers.

The engine is a 350. Its most significant event is in the log book photo above at 154047 miles, and can be explained by two words- Quaker State.

The paint is original. The carpet is circa 1972, and the original blue vinyl flooring can be seen underneath it.

What in particular do you want to see on the front passenger seat?
If you look closely in the photos above you'll see that the back of the front seat is actually the back of the seat that belongs in the 3rd row. The seat backs were swapped out to allow the front passenger easy to access the back of the terra-plane as they were driving down the interstate.

The spare tire mount was dealer aftermarket; I'll take some pics of it swung out.

Re: The most meticulously documented and maintained 72 Suburban in existence

I have seen stolen pics on ebay, it was a fake auction-a member of another board saw pics of his truck for sale on ebay. It was a scam. I guess that is what he is worried about.

That's what I was thinking they changed the upper section.

Thanks

Understand, but anybody can put Copyright TM on a picture.

We all see what happens here with photoshop.

No worries, just seemed silly to me.

Regardless...it is a nice thing to see.

Re: The most meticulously documented and maintained 72 Suburban in existence

I keep a logbook like that in all my vehicles. It's no trouble at all, and I find it's very helpful when I need reminders as to what kind of maintenance may be due. Years and miles pass a lot quicker than you think they do when some maintenance items/ projects become due. It's helpful to track mileage and I always try to do a tune-up before the smog check comes due also.
