Nice find. They look great either lowered or lifted. Hard to choose. Sorry I'm no help.

Re: 1986 gmc crew cab 2500

Yes I plan on leaving it a long bed I don't really like the idea of chopping the frame up. I have decied to make it a 4x4 I'd like to get a 4x4 parts truck to use just have to talk my wife into it. I love the way the long beds look lifted.

Definitely go 4x4! And sell me the High Sierra 2500 fender emblems I've been looking for a pair forever for mine. Love the look of lifted crew long beds.

Re: 1986 gmc crew cab 2500

Well here's an up date on my crew cab. Some won't like what I have done and it took me some time to make up my mind what to do. I know I had said that I like the look of the lifted long bed crew cab 4x4 and I do but I am gonig to stick with the 2wd drive. After looking at lots of pics I really like the look when they get shortend so thats what I have started. I did it a little different then most I have seen, wheelbase is 141 and once I get the bed done I should still have about a 6 foot bed.

Now have the box on I think it turned out nice. Still have to weld the box but you get the idea of how it will look. Also found some newer style rims that use the metric lug nuts. I was wanting to know how guys are making the lugs work to put the center caps on.

Re: 1986 gmc crew cab 2500

So how much did you take out of the frame? Assuming you are leaving the box that way or are you taking some off the back?

Re: 1986 gmc crew cab 2500

Personally I think it would have looked more proportional if some bed length was removed from in front of the wheel and some behind the wheel, like a factory shortbed. To me it looks too short in front of the wheel and too long behind the wheel. Just my opinion, otherwise, I love the project.

I personally would have just bought a factory shortbed from the junkyard and used it instead of all that work when it's not necessary to do it....
That's just my $.02

Re: 1986 gmc crew cab 2500

I removed 23.5". I thought about taking some off the back of the box but I still wanted to have at least a six foot box. Its about 6'6". If you look at a lot of the newer crew cabs some have it long in the back also.

Re: 1986 gmc crew cab 2500

These lug nuts will allow you to put the new style caps for those wheels on the older standard thread wheel studs on that truck:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/32-LUG-NUTS-...#ht_1471wt_904

What is the latest on this project. I think it looks fine with the longer tail sections since it gives you a 6'6" bed length.

Re: 1986 gmc crew cab 2500

Hey thanks for the info. Picked up some of the lugs worked very nice. Not much new just put the centers on and working on the box when I have time.
Have 3 young boys that also keep me busy.
