Anyone rebuilt an OEM sliding rear window?

Need some direction as to how to and where to go for parts to rebuild a factory sliding rear window. I'll need the weather stripping and rubber pieces that were installed in the corners. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Welcome aboard! The weatherstripping can be had I suspect. Here's a possible source though I have yet to check actual measurements:

I need to track down the rubber "sweeps" that have a "T" shaped part which slides into a channel on the screw-affixed vertical metal "posts" and an "O" shaped part that provides the seal between the mobile glass pane and the fixed glass pane. I guess pics would help!

I didnt know they were an option. I assume i just look at the spid?

rmmurphy - GM did offer a rear sliding window and trucks so equipped had the option listed on the SPID (A28)

I tried a local glass shop (two) and called a local business that installs camper shells and repairs the sliders in these shells with no luck.

First image shows the "sweep" I need to track down:

The sweep inserts into the vertical metal post at the far right of the second image. This post has screws (shown) that attach to the outer frame. The weather stripping and a plastic insert that goes into the bottom of the outer, narrow "C" channel are also shown:

Third pic shows square rubber strips mounted inside the larger inner "C" channel at each corner that function as bumpers to stop the mobile glass. Mine are still surprisingly pliable and don't need to be replaced:

I did not know that. So maybe the sliding window I'm selling is factory? It had a topper on it and I just don't remember the SPID.

Why not buy an entire rear sliding window at the junk yard off one of our trucks? I just saw one a couple weeks ago at my local yard. I think it was a 71 gmc

Glass on these trucks is an expendable part like a starter, alternator, tires, etc. Won't add or subtract much to the value unless it was a pristine original. I would just fine a good used one or even a new one.

I bought the lower seal from my local Glass Shop. I took the old one down and showed them what I needed and they came up with something very close. The seal was $4/foot.

Thanks Jim. I'll try another local glass place. This is an easily rebuildable part (vent windows more of a challenge) if I can track down the "sweeps". In the end I should have a nice tight OEM slider - will buff up the aluminum frame and should look good in my K20 resto.

Available as a factory installed option (will be on SPID then like my K20) or probably a dealer accessory. With a few exceptions (like adding a 700r4 tranny, bucket seats) I'm trying to keep my build original and use OEM or NOS parts whenever possible. For me, a new slider won't cut it if I can refurbish an original piece and I'm skeptical that a 40 year old rear slider with tight seals and intact glass can be located in a salvage yard anywhere.

The lock on mine is gone, sure would like to find a new clip, or even a new frame if that is what I need.

Slow progress but glad you checked in. Here's what I have so far. The grey sweep is OEM. The others I got from the scrap pile of a local glass shop (black - for screen door) or found online (white - from here: http://www.ultrafabsp.com/extruded_products/t-slot.php). The black sweep will hold snug in the T-channel and is in good shape so I'll prob use this one. The base of the "T" on the white sweep is just slightly too wide for the channel and needs a slight shave to fit, but with some small effort could be made to work. It's possible the company may have one that fits perfect, if/when I have time I may consider calling a salesman and sending and/or sending them a sample to match. I'm waiting to have the metal polished before reassembly.

Another local glass wholesaler gave me a length of weatherstrip that's not a perfect match but should should work fine with a bit of Super 77 or other adhesive to keep it snug.
