What is the short brown/white wire in the engine harness that is the above fuse box terminals? I'm looking for somewhere to tap into for my electric choke, but this wire is not hot anyway. Any ideas? Thanks

you might try checking out these wiring diagrams to see if this will help you. (if i suggested something for you, it would simply be from studying these diagrams)

I think that might be for the proportioning valve, does it have a boot on the end?

It only has 6" reach, with a female connector & no juice in any ignition position. This is a new b&h harness, but I know I've seen this on other trucks (most are tucked into the wire gutter). Before posting I looked at the wiring diagram & it looks like it comes off the heater fuse terminal. Anybody know?

I know the wire your talking about, i dont have mine hooked up, If i can rember right.... it went to the emmisions controler for Smog on my truck

I believe that Sevend2 is right, I have a short wire there that went to the smog components. My wire, on the other hand, is hot with the ignition on and dead otherwise.

KEH, Is it possible that you mistested something or there's a fuse out that might cause this reading? I used this in the past for my electric choke, and I'm now using it to trigger the relay for my TBI computer with no problems.

Brain and SEVEND2 are correct. The wiring diagram for the '72 shows this as one of the wires going to the TCS solenoid, that is part of the emissions package. I believe it goes to the fuse panel and is marked "radio/TCS". Like Brian said, it should be hot with the ignition on. I am using mine to lock up my 700R4 torque converter clutch.

Ah yes, It does ring a bell for me, but it was not a consistant 12 vt for my electric choke, so i did not use it. (i metered it out today and it jumped from 13.5vt to 9 vt back and forth) the carb book says it need to be a constant for the choke) I would just tie it off for dead unless your running emmisions

The brown wire is for your brake proportioner. For my electric choke I hooked it up to my old points distibutor wire. This is assuming that you are converted to HEI. It is hooked up through the ignition switch and is a hot wire. Hope this helps. Just look at the wiring diagrams and all of your questions will be answered.

The prop. valve is the light brown wire. The wire I'm talking about is dark brown. Anyway, I hooked the choke to the fuse box.
