Wood through 1987 in the step sides.

Metal starting in 1973 on the long beds.

Re: Wood bed or Steel Bed for the 59 GMC 100

You have to remember that a lot of guys threw a piece of sheet iron in the bed of their trucks when the wood bed got bad. I bought a parts truck a number of years ago that had a sheet of 1/4 inch steel in the bed. One of my buddies traded me something for that and it ended up being the top of his shop table. I've seen one AD truck that a guy cut the steel bed out of a later fleetside and used as the bed floor. That looked pretty sharp. He said he used an almost new truck that had both fenders banged up in a wreck and the body shop changed the whole box.

71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Wood bed or Steel Bed for the 59 GMC 100

I sold my 71 to get my Grandfathers 59, it was my choice...I think its better to do, Once I buy it, I'm going to focus on getting the Glass back in the truck and working on the rust issues on it.It has been sand blasted and primered black..It'll go back to the original color..I'll put a New Headboard on, and wood..Do they make a 59 Gmc 100 Grille reproduction?

nope, there are currently no metal 58/59 GMC reproduction grilles being made, just Chevrolet ones.
