running board, cab movement?

just built a set of running boards for a 51, and really dont like all the gap from bottom of cab to top of boads,...about 1 1/2 inch.
and really dont like how the splash apron follows the rear cab contour...
I would think all the gap was originally to allow for movement of cab when frame flexed,,,you know, crossing a gully !

question is, how much gap is really necessary? ( 1/4 inch be ok)? if you think i should leave it alone...then how about at least extending the end of the splash apron so it doesn't just stop with that 1" tall edge..

Re: running board, cab movement?

I don't think there is a hard fast rule. I have seen many different gap sizes. Probably has more to due with the type of frame and body mounts your using more that the correct amount of gap for body flex. Mine is probably an inch but I have pics of what looks to be less of an inch. Here are a few examples.

I say, set it up for how you like that it looks just make sure that it does not effect the fittment of other parts of your truck like the front fenders to hood gap. These trucks are strange like that. You take away from one area you almost add to another to get the gaps and fitment right.

My 2 cents.
