What is this?

I saw this on E-bay but I've never seen it in the pictures of anyone's engine. Just curiosity...

It looks like an oil fill tube for marine applications. My 454 in my boat has one of those that comes up off of the valve cover.

I saw one of these awhile back on e-bay and they said it was a oil filler for our year trucks. Ive never seen one on any trucks of our years though.

Don't AC equipped trucks have the oil filler in the rear passenger side valve cover? I think i saw a pic of a restored truck with a long tube coming from back there to fill oil with.

My 4x4 Jimmy has that oil filler neck on the driver side valve cover, with the brace attached to the intake or the carb, one of the two, don't remember right off the top of my head!!!

We used to have a 72 Chevy 3/4 4x4 that had a tube like that for filling the oil.

Interesting, does it make it easier to fill the oil?

That oil filler tube goes to the rear of the driver's side valve cover on my 72 (with power brakes and factory air). The brace is held by an intake manifold bolt. I think it probably does make it easier to add oil, since you don't have to worm the oil down towards a valve cover hole!

LOL! You guys make me laugh! I have one on my truck and I wouldn't get rid of it for anything. Slammed67 made fun of me for putting it back on after the rebuild, but I never drip a drop of oil. Now if I can just remember to put the cap back on...thank goodness the parts stores still sell them!

I have a 72 Cheyenne 402 PB AC and it doesn't have this so I think it is also a SB thingy.

I think it was on PB and AC trucks. If you only have PB, you can add oil on the front pass side. If you have AC and no PB, you can add oil on the rear drivers side. If you have PB and AC, the PB booster makes it difficult to get to the filler on the drivers side and the AC compressor brackets make it impossible to fill on the front pass side. This all applies to SB, don't know about the BB's.

I have pb, no AC. It's not on the option sticker but it's a good option to have.

The one on our truck was on a 72 without air but it did have PB. IT was also a 350 small block with automatic.
