The brake pedal on my 71 only has a few inches of travel and has a solid bottoming out feel. It is still several inches from the floor at this point and the stopping power is ok but not great. I don't see anything binding in the linkage and I haven't disconnected the pedal yet to see if it's the master cylinder or pedal causing the problem, just thought I'd check here first to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Pedal travel sounds good -- the last thing you want is the pedal going to the floor. Maybe the power booster has failed, or is not getting enough vacuum?

I had something similar. Turned out to be a couple bad wheel cylinders AND a bad master cylinder. You can get a brand new master cylinder from Oreillys for like $17. I'd start there, and also pull the wheels off to see if you have any leaking cylinders before you bleed for nothing. Or, do the reverse and pull the wheels first and check for leaks
