The drive shaft will have to be shortened. You will need to move the trans crossmember. You will also have to move and re adjust shifter linkage as well. Make sure the tv cable is hooked up correctly

Tubular transmission crossmember makes it alot easier. Also, grab a GM dipstick and tube. Prepare and study up on the TV cable (most important) and lock-up. Invest in a transmission pressure gauge. Keep asking questions! Good luck, there is a ton of info here.

The best source of tv cable setup inf I have found is on the Bowtie Overdrives website, might want to take a look at that, regardless of where you buy from.

Re: 700 r4 conversion questions

I just slid my crossmember forward, surprisingly enough there were bolt holes already there, they looked stock? I've always been told to get 700r4's from 1985 and up, however I cannot remember the reason, maybe someone will chime in.

Re: 700 r4 conversion questions

You will also need a new flex plate and a new starter for the 700r4 as your old manual trans ones won't work for the 700r4. Also the TV hookup is very important.
