comp cams suggestion...

Well, my new 350 /700r4 are sitting out.
Since its out and an easy time to do so, was gonna swap in a new cam.

Motor is a stock 350, I think late 80's nothing crazy
Was looking to do a performer rpm intake, edelbrock carb, bolt on some long tube 1 5/8 headers

I had a comp cam in my 69 camaro, ran great but it was a more built motor, aluminum heads etc.

Any ideas which model might be best?

Was lookin at the comp cams xe 256 or xe 268 model

Re: comp cams suggestion...

That was my thoughts too, I have seen better results with a little less cam /less carb on the mild applications. 256 xe should be good,

Haha im assuming its a flat tappet cam, guess its time to pull the old cover and see

Re: comp cams suggestion...

All my life I have been told: Always err to the mild side - never the wild side. If your cam is too mild, the engine will not quite put out its full potential. If your cam is too wild, the engine won't do anything well. Roy

Re: comp cams suggestion...

I have run the Comp 268H in several SBC engines. Nothing exotic, new push rods, still had pressed studs. I was happy with power and mileage. Best bet is to call comp cams. They will steer you i the right direction. Theyll ask your rear gear ratio, tire height, main use of truck etc

Re: comp cams suggestion...

I think I can get cam/lifters for around $180 or so

I will shoot them a call, and give em some specs. Just want to liven it up a tad, but still have a good daily driver.

So true, my aluminum headed 350 ran better with the 268 vs the 274 cam I ran first

Re: comp cams suggestion...

256 is a great cam for your combo. gives you more low end torque. Its not a hi rpm cam----but most of us dont need that anyway. good choice.

Re: comp cams suggestion...

I have run the 268H in tons of small blocks and loved every one of them. They are just made for that type of combo, look at the cam that Edelbrock has made up for the package that they offer, the cam is a little bigger if I recall correctly. The power acc. work just fine with it[power brakes] and in fact it has added both gas mileage and vaccum to everything I have put one in. Jim
