Brake line repair/replacement

My 72 C10 longbed has a rear brake line leaking. I had one leak that I repair by taking out the broken section and putting in a new steel piece about a foot long. When I went to bleed the brakes I found I had another leak further back in the line. My question is, how hard would it be to replace the entire line? I really don't want to have a brake line that is spliced multiple times but don't know how bad it would be to replace the entire line. Any ideas?

It is just some time and effort and a lot of brake bleeding. It isn't too hard imo.

I guess for a more specific question, how do you get the front portion of the line that runs along the frame off? It looks like a hard location to reach.

You"re right. You don't want a brake line with multiple splices.

IIRC the brake line to the rear is split about 1/2 back on the inside of the frame rail. But no matter where they are joined, or which lines you're talking about, you just get in there how ever you can, and loosen the fittings. You'll need two wrenches.

When you tighten up the new line, snug it up then loosen it a couple times before tightening it the last time. This helps to form the metal for a better seal on the flare so there's less chance of leakage.

If you can get your truck up on jack stands so you can get under it on a creeper you will have a much easier time...I replaced several lines on mine a couple months ago and the rear most one was the easiest.

Of course if you have access to a lift, you will have the easiest time of it.
