Piece of junk LMC sending unit

The fuel sending unit I bought stopped working right after installation. The float flooded I guess. Annoying.

Re: Piece of junk LMC sending unit

I had the same problem. I guess it wasn't a good soldering job. I called and they sent me a new float with no problems. I guess its a common complaint.

I had same problem. Ordered this off if eBay:

& & it worked awesome. It's the exact same size as the factory float.

Re: Piece of junk LMC sending unit

I called LMC today and they agreed to send me a new float . I asked them what was I going to do if that float also sank like the previous one did . They told me they could not guarantee that the new one would not sink as well . So I told them I could not guarantee that I could use this kind of junk . When the new float arrives I am going to immerse it in liquid for several days before installation and make sure it does not also fill up and sink. By doing it this way I can avoid having to take the sending unit out of the gas tank again if this float is also bad .

Re: Piece of junk LMC sending unit

I've had good luck (so far) with the fuel sending unit for my '72 that I ordered back in May from LMC. I have seen the issue you describe with other units - my buddy's had to replace several units in his 81 Ranger, and they always seem to separate at the solder joints. It sucks that quality parts are so hard to find these days - I'll pay extra for better stuff.
