Hi All,
I have a 71 Chevy K20 that in large part I bought to learn more about how to fix up my own vehicle. I've been successful at a few repairs so far, but now I'm on to an oil change. I know, I know... it's my FIRST time every changing my own oil!

I got as far as emptying out the old oil and changing the filter, but now I need to pour in the new stuff and I'm not 100% sure where to pour it in. There was a breather cap on this hole and I'm pretty sure it goes in the hole pictured here, right? (see photo)

Just don't want to screw anything up. Thanks all!

Yes fill the oil on either valve cover

I guess you COULD pour it into the dipstick hole, but it would take a long time. LOL

i got vent hole in middle of intake i use oil gos in a lot faster

You can't learn if you don't ask questions. You did find the right spot on your own but it never hurts to be sure. That is probably when the saying better safe than sorry came into being. Good job Keep up the want to on the learning about the old iron. If you need some help or advice holler. Jim

Tell ya what, my older brother tried to put engine oil in the power steering pump of my mom's car when we were in high school... we all gotta start learning somewhere!

Wow congrats on the truck a 3/4 ton ner extra fuel tanks nice lookin rig, now throw a 4" suspension lift on her.

Always good to fill the oil filter with oil before you screw it on also. Gets the oil to the bearings a bit faster on start up. Nice truck

volkswagen golfs had a plug on top of the bellhousing you removed to see the timing mark on the flywheel...newbies would regularly use this hole to pour gear oil all over their clutch....its always safer to ask....

Just don't do what the guy that ran in to a store I worked at, begging for a fire extinguisher did....Don't plug that hole with a rag.

Mountaineer, it's always good to ask the simple question. A couple of years ago one of my crews, kept putting automatic steering fluid in the brake booster of one of our flatbeds ( I had no idea ) until they lost the brakes and almost crashed. When I brought it to the shop, all the hoses, master cylinder and wheel cylinders had to be replaced. It cost a bit, but at least nobody was hurt. Have fun with your new ride. These trucks are the bomb

My daily driver is a golf! I opened the good one time to attempt a repair, thought I was looking at the inside of a laptop computer, and **** the hood. Even changing the headlights were a pain in the butt.

Thanks, It's had a full ton axle swapped in

not that I would be able to load that much weight into it. The bed is pretty rusty. Speaking of the auxiliary tanks, I haven't filled them yet, was thinking it would be best to drain them first since I'm not sure the last time they were used.

I got a pretty good deal though I think @ $1500. Only issues are a battery drain that was fixed for a few weeks by replacing the voltage regulator, now I have a battery disconnect switch in the cab. Power steering pressure hose sprang a leak so swapped that... Thing sounds like a dinosaur when I'm turning out of a tight space. Also e brake doesn't hold and a little rust here and there but that's it. Engine is an edelbrock 350 crate w 10k miles
