1970 gmc

So I finally have a truck of my own besides the one Dad and I are building. It is a 1970 GMC, 250 I6, 3 speed. 12 bolt coil rear, and she is a factory wideside.

Plans: Bodywork and paint it back to black, and do a light restomod. Put some power discs on it, better wheels, drop it a bit and that should do it.

The PO has already installed a new distributor, brakes, battery, and fuel pump. All I need to do is try and see if a fuel filter will fix my bogging problem and if not I will get the carb rebuilt.

Cool truck! Is the front bumper chrome, just oxidized? Or painted? My phone sucks and hard to tell. If its oxidized hit it with chrome polish. Mine was looking nearly that way and now It looks nearly new

Steel painted gray. When I get the body straight, and painted black with blue interior it will have grey steel bumpers

Re: 1970 gmc

It is coming along nicely. Paint in a few weeks then build it for good

Now with this one, it idles beautifuly and has a great sound to it, but under load it stumbles and stalls and is a pain to get it started. So onward with my quest to get it driveable!
Replaced all rubber hose that was related to the fuel, put some fresh 93 octane in it, new inline fuel filter. I will drive it tomorrow to see if any of that helped. If not I will replace the sending unit and sock filter and the filter at the carb inlet where the fuel line goes in.

Also today I put a new inline fuel filter (it had one already don't have a heart attack!)

Before:

After:

Paper filter for the carb:

And here she is running...

Re: 1970 gmc

Well this weekend was a success! Went to 109 U Pull It got a headlight door for the driver side since that was missing, Dewy Wright built my carb and tuned the truck up and him and I went to the local watering hole and let my truck get something to drink. Afterwards I laid some 11s and just chipper as can be and boy was it fun! Manual drums, manual steering, three speed on the column. Driving something like this is just outta this world! So happy I have chosen this as a hobby of mine!

Plans are to z the front and rear and have this truck huggin the ground. She will be on bags hopefully by Febuaryish. I will throw 20s all around 245/40s to be exact and may loose my really clean hardly rust free inner fenders. Anyone need some inners?

I haven't decided on wheels just yet. I really don't want the same torque thrust style everyone has, any suggestions?

Re: 1970 gmc

Well a local friend helped me get my trucks altitude in check, cut 2 coils out of each spring. I like it! Now a loud V8 backed by a T5 is next

Re: 1970 gmc

Three wheel studs broke on me last Monday and finally got the weekend free to replace em. Damn was it easy! Take the tire off, take the castle nut off after the cotter pin is removed and the whole hub slides off. A punch and ball peen hammer I drove em out, and drove the new ones back in. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Shot of the whole truck with my refreshment and my new floor jack/jack stands combo I just bought from SEARS this mornin

Three gone thanks to loose lugs. CHECK YOUR LUGS OFTEN FOLKS!!

Tire and drum removed

And the new studs installed, a bit shorter but they work!
