Who is still topless?

It is a little overcast, but the temps are in the low 50's. I am heading out and about in my K5 topless. I can't bring myself to put the lid on. How many others out there in the same boat?

Re: Who is still topless?

My '70 remains topless until the salt trucks arrive, then I put her down until a couple good rains clean the streets.

I miss my old blazers. I love to ride around with the top off all the time, My 73 never had a top! I used to run "doorless" also!

Re: Who is still topless?

Just installed a hoist. Getting ready to remove the top for first time since I've owned the truck. Maybe the weather will hold up for another month? Hoping for a mild winter anyway.

Re: Who is still topless?

mikekoala, have you figured what kind of "bridle" you're going to use to attach to your top? I keep trying different stuff with the Jimmy's top. Hope you have a GREAT solution... none of mine have been so far.

Re: Who is still topless?

RustyBucket, negative. I've been combing through posts here and a few other boards but haven't decided on which approach to take. Ratchet straps front to back? Not planning on replacing weather seals until Spring. Would welcome any stories on "definitely what NOT to do..." PM or new thread?

Re: Who is still topless?

I've never had a catastrophe just have trouble balancing the top to keep it level as I lift it off. I cross two of those flat yellow tow straps underneath the top, bring the ends out the corners in the back and out the side(door) openings in the front. I hook the 4 ends together above the top & hoist away. I use a couple of lengths of 1-1/4" pvc pipe for spreaders so it doesn't squeeze the top. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow.

Re: Who is still topless?

mikekoala, here's a few pictures of my 2wd. Jimmy's single wall top hangin'. I used a heat gun to shape the PVC so the straps would stay in place. The little electric winch is a Harbor Freight special. Sorry the pictures are sideways, I'm not smart enough to fix it.

That is excellent! Thanks for sharing this. Clever approach with the PVC. As for the photos, I can turn my head sidways faster than it takes to rotate a photo. : )

Re: Who is still topless?

Still off in Sacramento also, however I VERY bundeled on my way into work (5:30am), and enjoy the 70 degree temp on my way home!!

I`m restoring the top now, broke it down, replaced all metal plates inside top, all new rubber, polish glass and new tint, blocking inside and out, black gloss out side, flat inside!!! Hopefully get back from the shop on Friday (22nd), get it home, reassemble and have it back on by next weekend.......

Off again probably next May!!! Can`t wait!!!

Re: Who is still topless?

Sacramento '71, have you got any pictures of the restoration job on your top? Pictures of a "build" on a top would be interesting.
